Could've done all of that in 20 less minutes and filled 20 minutes with more about Tess/Joel trading with them or about the government massacre on the town or about how they tried to keep stores in the town "open" or where they continued to get supplies in their area.
Yep. I for sure thought we were gonna see them fixing up the places Frank mentioned. They built up to the massacre like it was something important, but it was just a lead in to Bill lol.

shite, I think they should've had a better marauder/raider fight scene. That was pretty poorly done and actually the dumbest part of the episode.
Terrible scene. And did they not have any other people try to break in after that? Only one group of people attempted to get in there?

Agreed, I was thinking MS or ALS too. Parkinson's had a treatment well before 2003, and untreated HIV/AIDS would've killed him way earlier

I will agree with you here. In the long run, this episode might feel extremely out of place. I thought as a stand-alone it was good, but for the third episode, I'm not sure if it makes sense. I compared it to Nikki and Paolo as well

Not to me, if they just took shot for shot and remade the game without building the world and telling the story of it would be pointless
I guess we’ll find out later if the episode was needed or not. It just felt like an episode of Lost where they went off in a different direction for a day.

I didn’t play the game. We’re 3 episodes in and I know just a little background on Joel, from the very beginning, but not much after the fall. I know nothing much at all about Ellie’s background.
These are the two main characters. But, I know all about the gay guys who are dead.
This would be like LOST having the Nikki/Paulo episode as the 3rd episode.
It was only Episode 3. And we’ve got a pretty long trek from outside of Boston to Wyoming.
Call me crazy, but I suspect we’re going to get a lot more of both of what you’re asking about. Probably also in flashbacks (given that they’ve used that a bit in the show to this point).
If you still have that complaint at Episode 9, then I think it’s a valid complaint.

I think there's a chance Bill is still alive. This show hasn't shielded viewers from pretty graphic stuff... showing them dead together wouldn't have been out of place. Seems like they went out of their way to not show the bodies; even directly called it out

That is a pretty good analogy actually, with the lone exception being that they didn't really have much affect on the story at all and Joel did get the truck and supplies from Bill.
And Jesus, MLS. You might want to take a break for a bit, dude. You're trying awfully hard (and graphically) to let us all know just how much you hate gay shite. To the point where you're coming off as that militant dad who hates everything about gays and his gay son, but behind closed doors is actually gay himself.

The after show seemed to indicate that he’s definitely dead.
The article I posted a couple pages back said the reason they didn’t pan all the way out to show the bodies is they thought it would be overkill at that point. And they were framing the window as an homage to the game that apparently uses windows a lot in poignant moments (and I believe on the menu screen too).

I think showing the window open was a more graceful way to confirm they're dead without putting viewers through seeing rotting corpses of characters they just spent an hour getting to know on a deep level.
But who knows...

Sorry homosexuality bothers you so much my guy. Maybe find some gay friends or something. Spend time with them and see how normal they are. Drink some beers, talk sports, do whatever. Then maybe the thought of people loving each other the way they were born to love won’t bother you so much.
What a load of crap. Bad faith arguments when clear evidence is presented is a bad look.

It’s ok. It was my only big annoyance in the episode (outside of the raider scene). I was hoping we’d get more Offerman, especially after they killed off Anna Torv. But that’s the post-apocalyptic world for ya.

I don’t know very much either. I’d switched over from PS to XBOX not long before it released on PS so I never had the opportunity to play it.

Was that gas plant seriously able to prop up Bill’s lifestyle for 20 years? Seems like something upstream of that facility would’ve gone caput immediately and him opening a single valve (lol) would have been useless.
I laughed a bit at that as well. But I give them credit for at least trying to address those kinds of details - also when Bill is at Home Depot, the power goes out, and he says “huh, that was quick.”
That said, I do think it’s possible that simply opening a valve could provide them with gas for a long time if he’s only using it to cook (e.g. if he’s using a gasoline or diesel generator). You could probably live off of the residual pipeline pressure for a fair amount of time. I don’t know about 20 years, though.

Based on how much prepping he did, I'd assume he already had gas stored and was just setting up to use whatever other resources he could for as long as possible before eating into his stores.

In the game they’re a lot less cordial and sophisticated. They’re living much more like two people holed up during the apocalypse would. They break up before, frank gets bit and kills himself before we ever get there. They also seem to fight a lot and have scenarios like this often. Bill finds out he’s dead when Joel and Ellie return from some scavenging and find his body. Bill is similar to the show in terms of his rugged/prepped side but we don’t see any of the sophistication like we did. Obviously we never see frank.
My issue is they really did retcon the character. I wouldn’t have minded seeing them and their story before Joel and Ellie arrive. But the story we got last night was basically a totally different set of characters with only a loose association to the game.

That's all I ask with shite like that. I remember an episode one time of TWD where the wasting of ammo was so blatant I posted in the thread that if they'd only have thrown in a single line of dialogue about how "We need to make more rounds.." or something like that, it would've made it make much more sense (and I was eventually relieved to see them address that with Eugene later).
Do I think he could've just coasted for two decades siphoning gas (liquid and gaseous)? Nah. But at least they addressed it and tried to give an explanation for it. Because had they not, we'd all be sitting here blasting it for how unrealistic it is that he still has fuel.
And I do agree that the worst part of the episode was raiding of the town scene, and that should've been the most interesting.

i would have taken an 80 minute episode of bill setting up his fortress and supplies and it would have been a better episode in my view
