We disagree here. I actually thought it was his best role since Jerry Maguire.

well to me it falls into the "Mike Tyson in Hangover" category

unfunny, unlikable people who are supposed to cause everyone to keel over with laughing pains because, OMG ITS MIKE TYSON AND HE LIKES PHIL COLLINS, LOL THAT'S FUNNY

or OMG, IT'S TOM CRUISE WEARING A FAT SUIT, HOW FUNNY

I enjoy Tom Cruise as an actor and I think he's very good. but that role was just so idiotic and insulting

people who loved it probably love Tyler Perry and Nickelback

I love that Tropic Thunder is getting some hate in this thread. Terrible movie that gets more than enough hype around here. And Tom Cruise wa arguably the worst part of it...he sucked.

Bill Murray in Zombieland was greatness. And I agree with whoever said that Tyson in Hangover would've been infinitely better had it not been spoiled in the trailers.

Also, great call on Heston in Wayne's World 2.

The differences between Mike Tyson in The Hangover and Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder are too numerous to mention. Tom Cruise's role wasn't just a cameo, he was a legitimate supporting actor with a decent amount of screen time.

Tropic Thunder was an over-the-top satire of the movie industry with quite a few characters having been based on real-life people. Tom Cruise's Les Grossman was a parody of Hollywood producer Stuart Cornfeld:

Also...unlike Mike Tyson...Tom Cruise actually got some Oscar buzz for his role and was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor. One could argue that was due to his star power, but I believe the nomination was well-deserved.

well i didnt say they were the same thing. I said it falls into the same category...which i then explained.

It only works if the actors playing the characters are loved. Most people think Tom Cruise is a crazy person and Mike Tyson is a convicted rapist.

it doesn't work

oh please. He got buzz becuase he went so completely against type and wore a fat suit. He still had the same Tom Cruise voice, IDGAF who he was a parody of. He sucked

No, it wasn't Five year engagement, his cameo was in Ted as Jared.

His overall best cameo was in Harold & Kumar as the male nurse.
