The Death of Stalin

I had been meaning to see it for a while but I never got around to it. Last night I wasn't doing anything so I said what the hell and rented it on Amazon. I loved it, thought it was really funny. I'm especially a fan of history and dark humor so this was right up my ally. They did a great job of covering some pretty dark material in a funny and lighthearted way. I really liked Steve Buscemi as Krushchev and Jason Isaacs as Zhukov, but I thought all the actors were great. I really liked also how the actors just spoke normally, instead of with fake Russian accents, it made the story seem more authentic. Overall it was great, highly recommend if you are into that period of history. It also gave a great commentary, showing that no matter how bad things may seem politically here with a "fascist Trump" or "communists Bernie" it's all peanuts compared to living in Stalinist Russia.

One of the better comedies of the last decade, IMO

Great comedy. Jason Isaacs is awesome as Zhukov.

This is now on Netflix so I gave it a watch tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it.
It reminded me of Jojo Rabbit a bit in how well it was able to balance the absurdist satire while not minimizing the actual horrors of the regime.

They would be polite to each other. Then have the other one shot when opportunity arrives. Great movie.

I just watched it this week. I thought it was incredible. It’s also awesome that Buscemi is carving out a really nice back half of his career. He’s been in some great stuff and actually has really good range between dramas and comedies. I loved the subtle humor and how they basically couldn’t disagree with anyone or they’d be shot
ETA: the no accents makes it even funnier because it just enhances the absurdity to me. Also Jeffrey Tambor being totally limp wristed as a deputy and then seeing his shift to this “all powerful” leader mentally, but in reality being no more influential than he was before and now just a puppet was great. He did a great job with it.

Hail, Caesar is also on Netflix and if you enjoyed Death of Stalin I think you’ll like that one as well.
Got a lot of shite when it came out, not sure why

I don’t really know what I was expecting but remember being thrown off because the trailer and the movie were really different.
It’s just a day in the life of a studio head. I love the HBO run it’s been on, it’s a great movie to jump into at random spots

Yeah I avoided it for a while because this board trashed the hell out of it.
Watched it on HBO and loved it. It was much more in line with Burn after reading. Which I also love but can see how someone could not like

I love Burn after reading. I think it’s one of the CB best.

It’s awesome.
But it’s also a movie I can see recommending to someone and them being like “that was dumb nothing happened!!” Because people are dumb

History Buffs youtube video on Death of Stalin
If you loved the movie, you'll love the video posted in the link above. Apparently, aside from all of the funny dialogue, most of the events are true and the writers did an amazing job getting the events as close to accurate as possible.
