Watching it now. What did the letter that Bowie got on the bridge from Santa Anna say? After The canon is fired and rides back to the Alamo he tell Colonel Travis to surrender at his discretion. to which he replies "maybe they'll only execute the officers"

Yes, the billy bob version. My guess is that, unlike in the past, the Mexican army wasn't going to let the Texans just 'give' the Alamo up. It never said what the letter said so I don't really know.

correct me if i'm wrong, but didnt santa anna give the defenders a chance to surrender and they fired the cannon in order to say "frick you"

In the movie Col. Bowie is trying to work out a truce with a Mexican General and Lt. Col. Travis fires the canon cause he thinks it makes them look weak surrendering. Before that though the Mexican General hands Bowie a letter and it's obvious Bowie doesn't like what it says. The Mexican General (who is apparently somewhat 'friends' with Bowie) tells him he's sorry.

oh. i know in real life bowie was married to the sister (or sister-in-law) of a mexican officer and i think in the movie santa anna gives bowie a chance to leave or join the mexicans (been a while since i've seen the movie so i could be way off)

Now a days if people fought to their last the people of the U.S would not be as outraged as the Texan were in the film.
