GOT related: It’s going to be a meme for bad writing for years and years

This was the moment, the real moment, many defenders stopped and said “w...t...f?”

What would possess a guy to actually admit that? I’ve been running it through my head trying to come up with a viable scenario and I can’t.

He could have said “her view was obscured by the fleet’s position and Euron has the ability to somewhat cloak his ships”. Sure that’s kinda stupid but WAAAY better than “she kinda forgot”

They literally told her directly about Euron’s fleet in the scene immediately before that. Come up with something else or just say “She lost her focus once she saw the red keep in the distance and wasn’t looking down”

How do you say that AND THEN edit it and put it in the aftershow? What was HBO thinking here?

I look forward to seeing this meme in every single instance of bad story telling in the future. No matter the show, movie, or genre.

It's obvious they wanted to wrap up as fast as possible.

HBO wanted more seasons

GRRM wanted more seasons

They wanted to go work on SW.

Should have passed on the baton to another director.

See picture I added. It was a post show commentary/explanation for a major Game of Thrones “twist” by the writers.

It’s easy to miss a massive fleet coming straight at you, amirite?

Yeah. Would have been better to say "Dany underestimated the advancement made in the production and use of the Scorpions. She felt she was safe at that distance and was wrong. She believed she could do what she ultimately DID do to them. But, they struck first"

Yep - that works very well.

But ANYTHING works better than what he actually said

He could have said riding the dragon gave her a yeast infection and the itchiness distracted her for a second and it would have been better

And just remember. THAT guy graduated from Dartmouth. He has single handily undone any delusions I had about the intelligence needed to get an Ivy League education.

You kinda forget about what you have to do if you’re already running away with the money.

I really wish these guys would’ve been humble enough to hand the project off to a hungry team of writers who would have taken the time to finish the story without half assing everything. If you want to move on fine, but at least have enough respect for what has been built and enjoyed by so many to finish it it without rushing.

It doesn't help that while they were planning their march to King's Landing that the Iron Fleet was specifically brought up.

eta: Just saw you mentioned that in the OP.

Their explanation really made it bad.

You could fault the effects crew for not showing Rhaegar as more damaged, looking clumsy in flight etc. I think that's supposed to be a lot of the issue, that he wasn't maneuverable and thus an easy target. Jon's statements hint at that. But we don't see any evidence on the screen, he's just flying as easily as Drogon and then thwack, he's toast.

I agree. If they wanted to move on, they should’ve passed the torch last season to someone else. But they’re money grubbers and have zero respect for the intelligence of the fan base.

For additional confirmation, simply listen to members of congress.

Never forget, Sheila Jackson Lee has a degree from Yale.

And it's not as though it was a gaffe made during a live interview - it was pre-recorded. Someone else editing it could have said, "Hey, that sounds really fricking stupid. Let's just leave that part out."
