The 2001-2002 HBO original programming lineup was insane

These are the shows that were all concurrently airing on HBO in 2001-02. Some were premiere seasons, some were right in the middle of their run or some were about to end, but, regardless, think it's safe to say a $10/mo HBO subscription was well worth the cost during this time.
- The Sopranos
- Band of Brothers
- Curb Your Enthusiasm
- The Wire
- Sex And The City
- Six Feet Under
- Oz
- Arliss
- Taxicab Confessions
- Real Sex
- Project Greenlight

Holy shite I cannot believe curb has been around so long

Premiere season was 2001. Go back and watch those episodes. They're hilarious. Richard Lewis was almost a co-star and the production quality was inensnely different.
Edit: Curb was in its second season in 2001. It premiered in 2000 after the success of Larry's hour-long special in 1999 that set the template for the format of the show.

When did they stop making these? Seems like forever since I saw one.

Taxicabs Confessions and Real Sex ended in 2006 and 2009.
They had been around since the mid 90s.
Project Greenlight, amazingly, lasted on and off until 2015. I never would have guessed that.

HBO has fallen off a fricking cliff

HBO pulled everything x rated off in 2019 or so right around when Max was being made.
All their soft core stuff got repurposed to PG13 versions on freevee or tubi or something.
Somebody made a reference to one of these (space babes from something) and it sent me down a (incognito) Google search. There’s obviously easier options but i was curious.

I remember a couple years ago HBO got some new programming chief and said he wanted to turn HBO Max into Netflix and flood it with programming. This was about 2018 I think.
What followed was the most embarrassing parade of horse shite to ever show up on the screen and HBO didn't put anything of quality out. I remember scrolling through the app just wondering "what the frick is this and where did the good stuff go."

And soon to be followed up by Rome, which was a helluva show.

Its called the Internet and cell phones. Trust me once the dial up internet went away shows like that became a thing of the past. You could pull up anything you want on your phones too no more sneaking around if you know what I mean.

03-05 was crazy good, too, but it didn't have Band of Brothers sandwiched in there among all the others, which is why 2001 really stands out.
However, that time period saw these programs premiere:
Da Ali G Show (2003)
Entourage (2004)
Deadwood (2004)
Rome (2005)
Extras (2005)

Also taxi cab confessions and real sex were crucial to my pre-teen development.

Did anyone ever watch their movies? I saw the first one.
Nice idea, and I watched the series....but you learned, there's not an abundance of talent in the world.
I mean Stolen Summer won...it has 21 reviews on Amazon despite being 20 years old.
And the reviews said the DVDs didn't even play. They were reaching and didn't even find a profit despite the promotion of the show and cheap budget of the movies.
And Stolen Summer was barely released and its...just....no point...

How is Oz? I've thought about starting that one before, but never pulled the trigger on it.

Autopsy was on at this time, too. I watched every episode of it.

I remember it well. HBO was my number one channel for years.
