I remember watching Tales from the Crypt as a kid..maybe in the late 90s. Had to have aired on FOX because we didn't catch HBO..damn this thread brought back memories of watching that show late at night

I used to fake sleep and then watch it on WGNO. Scared the crap out of me.

I love this time of year precisely for the nostalgia factor and looking through a lot of these TV anthologies brought back some memories. I wasn't an 80's kid but a lot of these shows and episodes I glimpsed during reruns on Fox or Sci-Fi Channel and they scared the hell out of me growing up

Of course, I had no idea the name of the shows or episodes I was watching at that time, so this is just a way of connecting the dots and further exploring those things that used to freak me out when I was little

As someone said, Tales from the Darkside is hit or miss. But the intro freaked me out as a kid.

Tales from the Darkside

And "Monsters" came on right after Tales from the Darkside. It was also hit or miss, but it's intro wasn't nearly as freaky.
Monsters

"Return of the Living Dead"

Incredibly campy with a high cheese factor but a unique movie in that it had an awesome combination of dark humor while still being genuinely creepy.

As for the 3 shows listed, Creepshow I and Creepshow II are far and away my favorites over the other two. Some highlights was the beach episode with Leslie Neilson/Ted Danson, the oil slick/blob in the lake, and the Hitchhiker (thanks for the ride lady)..lol

One of the most underrated movies from the 80s is Twilight Zone: The Movie.

The four stories told in that movie FAR exceed the original four stories from the TV series.

Twilight Zone: The Movie is a must watch during the Halloween season.

I saw the first one a million times. It is classic. "It's Father's Day and I Want My Cake" and Stephen King playing a "lunkhead" and touching "meteor shite." And Adrienne Barbeau in "The Crate."

In my opinion, the second one is the best, especially the lake/oil slick episode. that's my favorite episode of all Creepshow stories with the wooden indian not far behind.

I hope everyone realizes that the V/H/S movies are continuing the halloween anthology tradition remarkably well.

V/H/S/2 is at times brilliant.

Solid movies.

I haven't watched those in a long time. Masters of Horror was also hit or miss. And they were hour longs, so the misses could be worse from a waste of time perspective. A 30-minute Crypt miss is not a bad thing.

As a kid, the Crypt or Darkside episode that freaked me out the most was the Mirror-Ghost Thing. The guy would see someone in the mirror that got progressively closer through the day.

I was like 9 or 10, and couldn't look at a mirror for a week.

It's great to see this happening, I wish that the Grindhouse type of movie was still popular in theaters. V/H/S 2 was my favorite of the two.

I enjoyed the second one too. Just didn't see it as many times as the first. And it only had 3 episodes where the first had 5.

I am thinking that the mirror episode you are referring to is from the series Amazing Stories.
Mirror, Mirror starred Sam Waterston, featured Tim Robbins, and was directed by Martin Scorsese.

Also freaked me out as a kid.
