The Western thriller and black comedy film will have its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in May. It stars Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Clifton Collins Jr. and Amélie Hoeferle.
Great cast

A contemporary western set during Covid starring Pedro Pascal. It should be well received here.
I was not a fan of Beau is Afraid. I’m hoping he can recapture his fricked up magic from Hereditary and Midsommar. Apparently it’s an updated version of the first film he tried to make but pivoted to Hereditary. He updated that script to be set during COVID.

It was far too long, but I did like it. The highs of the film were very good.

I was excited about this before the details on what it’s actually about started coming out. Looks like it will be a commentary on early covid days/the culture war..

Rumored reports have also stated that the small town will be set during a pandemic. Phoenix’s Sheriff Joe Cross and Pascal’s Mayor Garcia appear to be at the heart of a rivalry fueled by ambition and polarization when Joe is spurned to run for mayor of Eddington after he refuses to wear a face mask. Its rural isolation, paranoia, and clash between ambition and power are set to offer compelling tension as Ari Aster's latest movie tackles the American culture war of recent years.

Hope he keeps the facial hair so we don't have to look at a harelip for two hours.

This sounds awful. Aster had a lot of promise after Hereditary but so far has failed to live up to it.

I don't hate Pascal like some on here but my God is this baw in every fricking show and movie imaginable

He has the last of us going on right now. Starting next month its Freaky Tales, Materialists, Fantastic Four and Edington, all by the end of summer. He's been busy

I love Hereditary and Midsommar, probably two of my favorite horror movies the last 25 years. I think the studio gave him too much rope for Beau is Afraid and he went way too far up his own arse (IMO, of course). I was hoping he’d go back to horror but I guess he’s trying not to get pigeonholed, which I can understand. Plot summary doesn’t sound amazing though, guess we’ll see.

I just hope Austin Butler doesn’t do an Elvis impersonation the entire movie like his last 5 films.
