I really hope she mixed them up and plays the fake one on herself. That would be amazing.

I do too. She’s a meme machine but she drives me nuts. I also can’t believe she’s only 35. She looks 45 and sounds 55. Drugs are bad for you.

I’m also bitter bc Helen was my winner pick

They didn’t show her read the paper with the idols. Have seen speculation that production could have different idols among each tribe. Carolyn is no doubt crazy, but I don’t think she’s as dumb as her edit makes her out to be.

Apparently her "fake idol" was a string of beads, so she probably does have the correct one.

Still would have been hilarious.

I hope Danny baits someone into finding his fake one.

Erika and Maryanne... meh.

You can't say that Jesse fricking over Cody with his own idol was boring. And the fire challenge was fantastic.

I agree with you, Boo! I thought last season was pretty good. I don't understand the Gabler hate. Cody got on my last nerve, so I kind of loved the Jesse play. And really...good for Jesse. That's what this game is, figuring out who to trust, etc. I like a lot of the cast. The water challenge was cool, too.

Maryanne...I thought she was one of the worst winners ever!

I cannot understand how in the world Gabler is a worse winner than Maryanne. I truly did feel Gabler deserved it. When it counted, he did outlast and outplay. All Maryanne did was cry and act clueless.

I think her tribemates saw the same thing and that’s why she got sent packing.

Helen was on the verge of crying because she wanted to be on Survivor her whole life but she had no qualms trying to vote off Carolyn who feels the same way. First Maddy, then Helen. The two early try hard schemers are gone.

Was that foreshadowing of something at the challenge when he asked Claire (think that’s her name) why she was sitting out again. It was a weird comment to leave in.

And Carolyn is becoming my favorite contestant to watch in a long time. Sort of a bipolar Tony.

I don’t really feel like arguing about it anymore but Maryanne had the biggest move of the season taking out Omar. That alone is more than Erika or Gabler did. She was also the only one to display agency and strategy in the game.

I chalk it up to editing mostly. They both clearly did enough to get people to vote for them. But it takes post game interviews and rewatch analysis to make it make sense. Erika was invisible and Gabler was made to be a bafoon. Maryanne was out there but she was shown to be smart, eloquent, and painfully positive.

What we were shown on tv is Erika was saved by production when the hour glass happened, and gabler had a moment at the merge where he won immunity and put Ellie’s name out there, then proceeded to hide behind bigger players the rest of the game.

Erika and Gabler also had objectively worse FTC competiontion. Cassidy and Xander were nobodies, Owen already knew he wasn’t winning and even gave up, and Deshawn was pretty universally disliked. Sure Maryanne had romeo but she also had Mike who probably wins if he answers a few questions differently.

Frankly I don’t think Erika or Gabler are as bad as some people do. I don’t have them in the bottom 10 winners. Ok maybe Erika. I also wouldn’t consider Maryanne a top winner like most people do for some reason. I have her around 20-25.

That’s my last post on it. We can all agree to disagree. I’m not trying to change minds. Just hoping this season continues at this pace

LOL! Yep. Because I don't see it at all that way. I also don't care about seeing any of them make big moves. I don't expect them to be entertaining either. I expect them to slog it out for their alliance and for themselves. If big moves happen, that's fine. I'm not looking for a resume building winner. I like old school survivor. And even though I'm not a Maryanne fan, I do totally believe whoever the jury votes for deserves the win.

Did anyone listen to the podcast? Crazy that this is the first time ever that Probst actually did an official one. Some pretty good behind the scenes info.

admittedly the " designated lazy person". Sits out back to back challenges (which i thought was not allowed?). what actual purpose does she serve?

Carolyn is

is annoying AF. and now has an idol so, she'll be around a bit longer.

The "smart" folks in her tribe noticed the bag had been tampered with ,knew she went off by herself, emptied all of their bags yet, didn't put it together that she had the idol?

The previews for next week made it look like he was going to put his fake idol back in the bag with only the "This is a Hidden Immunity Idol" message. Would be an incredible move to pull off.

Helen and Maddy both tried to make moves too early. Helen was a little unlucky with the idol, but I think playing so strategic early on has backfired in the new era. You almost have to ease into it at this point because everyone is so aware it's going on.

Yeah. Now it seems like you have to act like you're a big, happy tribe and pretend like you love everyone and wish everyone could stay. It's a little silly. However, I can understand why playing to hard early on would get you voted out. It scares everyone. They worry that you are the ultimate strategist and it's a quick goodbye.

It definitely wasn't allowed back in the day, but they also used to alternate reward challenges and immunity challenges. Now they either combine them or edit out the reward challenges unless something significant happens.

On your recommendation, I listened to the episode where they talked about idols and advantages following the most recent episode. It was very good - thanks.

I liked the story of the contestant who threw away the idol the producers hid it inside a fish that was a challenge prize. The guy cleaned the fish and threw out the guts without seeing the idol.

It was also interesting to hear about editing and how they do it to elicit emotional responses. For example, Carolyn was portrayed as a wacko but then told the story of digging through her kid’s poop for a tooth for the Tooth Fairy. That made her a “good mom” and much more likeable than a random quirky weirdo. Then they did the whole birdcage caper she pulled off and made viewers care more about whether this good mom was going to get busted.

heh! "designated lazy person" sits out all the challenges, gets the boot.

Danny used that fake idol perfectly.

Matthew kind of screwed his "number 1".

I loved seeing them just take out the weak link instead of trying to play too hard too soon.

Yeah he did. I don't think he needed to prod about it after, he could have let it ride, but... now he has a better chance of knowing when it's going to be in play.

Me too, one of the most bone headed moves by someone ever. She deserved to go.

They talked about this on the Probst podcast after the show. The consensus was that a tribe bonds together by participating in the challenges and if they win, the message is that they can win without you. So if they lose, they’re likely to pick the “outsider.”

Most of the rest of the podcast talked about the casting process. Last week, they talked about the history of idols and advantages. It’s really a good listen.
