Watched this over the last 2 nights with my wife.
So this got savaged by critics as a cliched mess of a film, Bruce Willis demanded a bunch of script edits that had to be extensively reshot after test audiences hated it and producers strongarmed "fixes".
Damn if it hasn't been a guilty pleasure of mine for 20 years and still holds up.
The story itself is hackneyed but fine, but the execution of the plot is far far better than this film deserves - the pacing and direction is that of a much stronger movie. The jump scares and overall creepiness of the atmosphere kept me really invested when the characters didn't. Robert Pastorelli gives a cartoonish performance of murderous insanity that is disturbing but fascinating- like Judge Doom from Roger Rabbit.
Bruce Willis might actually be the weakest part, he had squandered all his good will from Die Hard by 93 after Hudson Hawk and other bombs, and his character here is a snivelling pussy more often than a concentrated badass.
The sex scene with SJP was reshot to make it "sexier" bit really just ended up "grosser", reminiscent of an early 90s softcore porn.
5/10
I highly recommend.

Good movie that I have completely forgotten about, but you better check yourself with that Bruce hate. Bruce does no wrong

1980s Bruce and post-1994 Bruce, sure.
I feel like Kurt Russell would have been exceptional in this.
I think it was the final nail in the coffin of 1980s style action movies. Everything from about 1995 on was packed with Jerry Bruckheimer explosions, heroes that were stylish, humor was all wit, villains were all terrorists.
This is extremely similar in tone to the first two Lethal Weapons, just less funny. That shite was pretty stale by 93.

Same.
Sam the Sham’s Lil Red Riding Hood GOAT
I miss 90’s thrillers. It sucks that Hollywood doesn’t really make them anymore, or at least with the resources and frequency they once did. fricking comic book movies.

I really like the movie. It’s been in my ‘dvd collection’ for 20 years. I may rewatch this weekend. It’s been at least 10-15 years for sure.
Side (funny?) story for those interested:
First time I watched it was at a friend’s house in middle school. His mom was a big Bruce Willis fan. She rented it and let us watch it with her. When the sex scene started, Sarah Jessica Parker was wearing a bra. His mom grabbed the remote... presumably to fast forward.... but no. Hahaha. She pressed rewind to show us the scene right before with SJP wearing a dress. She said “look at that , NO WAY she was wearing a bra in that dress”. Then she pressed play and we watched rest of the movie.

I have always loved this movie. It’s also the best SJP has ever looked!

I always enjoy a good family cop movie. Not cop movies for the whole family, but movies with families full of cops all working in one city.
Especially when Dennis Farina is the damn pater familias of one wing of it.

I jerked off to SJP in this movie as a 12 year old No Ragrets

I couldn't tell the two cousin brothers apart and it always confused me.

Which outfit was your favorite? I loved the first one here.
Didn't he wake up the morning after to her wearing his shirt from this scene?
In this picture, Bruce was looking like he was right there with 12 year old Walt.

Sadly, that looks like me now at 36. Balding, drinking whiskey, 1000-yard stare

Hey Little Red Riding Hood
You sure are looking good
You're everything a big bad wolf could want... aaahhhhooooo!
I like it but for me it's in the tier of slightly more generic 90s action movies like Metro and Hard Rain but a definite step above far more forgettable action films like Firestorm and Speed 2.

The 6 or 7 big budget super hero movies a year are not why movies like this died off. They just stopped making money is all. There were several action thrillers last year. Most just didn't do all that well. The ones that do make money these days tend to be far more frenetic like the John Wick series. Liam Neesson is still pumping out an action thriller every year or so and FWIW the Has Fallen trilogy is tailor made for prime Bruce Willis but since the version of Bruce we have now is content to show up on set for a day to fart out a direct to video release we get Gerard Butler instead.
