Great show. Lots of tits. Epic dialogue. Fight in season 3 is an all timer.

Too expensive and not enough eyes on it. Ratings weren't good enough for the cost. So Milch moved on to one of the worst shows ever. John from Cincinnati. Garbage.
Also been stated that HBO offered a shortened season 4 to tie up the story of Deadwood, but Milch had grown bored with it and became obsessed with JFC. By the time Milch had decided to go ahead with 4th season, a lot of the cast had moved on to other contracted projects. It's sad, because there are two major disasters that happened in Deadwood and would have made for some great television. Like Trixie delivering on her promise to burn the camp if things go awry, and the fire of 1879 being her fault.

Midway through season 2 now….getting very, very weird with Mr. W and the whores. I don’t understand.

been flat on my back with disc pain (hopefully soon addressed) this weekend so i rewatched all three seasons and will rewatch the movie tonite. a few things that i noticed after all this time
i continue to dislike powers boothe's performance as tolliver. way too over the top and cartoonish; one dimensional, no depth or nuance. and i dont think its the writing because the scripts are universally beloved and rightfully exalted. wrong actor, bad performance, irrelevant character
season 3 is where i have a whole new appreciation for the show. of the minor S3 characters, the one that jumps out at me as well delivered is jack langrishe. i remember not being all that interested and usually bored by that whole storyline, i had forgotten how intuitive he was to al's issues and how much sense he made when advising him. other minor guys that shined in S3 (did a better job than i remember) are leon the dope dealer, steve the drunk , and silas adams. i'd also forgotten what a perfectly unlikeable weasel the yankton commissioner was.
on the other hand, sarah paulson absolutely deserves her show/movie killing reputation; her acting is ludicrous as is her entire storyline and resolution. one of very few misses in this show. the earp brothers' appearance and story was likewise not needed or even entertaining
finally, gerald mcraney should have won an emmy as george hearst. a masterclass in how to portray what could have been a stereotypical robber baron/villain.
other delightful reminders:
-charlie utter is a badass
-"did you dye your hair?"
-unauthorized cinnamon
-the diagram hearst sends al and the attempt to decipher it
-richardson at amateur night
-farnum's ridiculous wardrobe

Every time my wife comes in the room I just say 'Joanie Stubbs' in my best Powers Booth and she has no idea what it means.
On another rewatch I really love this scene. E.B. and Alma are at their best here.

once again, the our benevolent internet Gods have removed from all existence 4 or 5 of the funniest videos ever.
"Deadwood with a laugh track" featured that very scene and was hysterical. Can't believe i can't find them anymore. There were about 5 or 6 scenes where they added a laugh track and they were so damn good.

Holy MF’s crap that’s crazy….also I agree with the poster who didn’t enjoy Powers Boothe. In fact I’ve hated everything he’s ever done accept for Curly Bill in Tombstone.

one last thing I always wondered why they didn’t address…what did EB do with the 100 large Hearst gave him for the hotel? We see him with the money in his office but it’s never mentioned or alluded to again, unless I missed something. Shouldn’t have/wouldn’t have that made EB a wealthy man?
Similarly, what did mose do with the 200K Walcott gave him? Are we to assume he lost it ALL in the Bella union?
Asking because I’m still puzzled about Hearst getting outbid for Charlie’s land. 5000 or 7000 or multiple hundreds of thousands didn’t seem to matter to him…but he wanted the land enough to commit multiple murders. Why didn’t farnum or mose immediately become powerful holding that kind of cash in the camp?

I could see Farnum blowing through his cash on hair brained schemes and poor investments. He also had secret walls installed on the hotel and that wouldn't have been free.
I just assumed Mose had all his belongings stolen by Cy Tolliver when he shot in the Bella Union. The weight of killing his brother was already getting to him before the shooting. Seems like he took that and losing his possessions as penance for his brother's murder.

right…not be nitpicking though but a dollar in 1876 is 30 dollars today. Mose had the buying power of 6 million dollars LOL. Farnum had 3 million
reality must impose. No way he would have just walked away from $6MM especially if it were stolen. I guess we can assume wolcott took it back?
no biggie but a show all about money and change due to money didn’t really show the impact of what is without question life changing wealth for those two in the same way it did for alma for example.
