I went in the tour of southfork. I was surprised at how small the house was. For some reason when I was young, I used to think it was a huge mansion lol

Have heard that.

It certainly doesn’t seem palatial and huge but more like big overall with a ton of moderate sized rooms.

And that raises yet another dynamic I mention in every thread:
How freakin weird would it be to live under the same roof with your parents, adult siblings and their kids?
Even with a normal family,
it’d be so weird, but add in for each meal the pit vipers of JR, Sue Ellen (much of the time), and even Jock at times, and it’d be insane.
Was that more of a thing in the 70s-80s?
Or maybe supposed to be a thing the super wealthy did?
Of course, for storytelling purposes it makes things much easier and connected.

Yeah, it seems to me they would have built their own homes on the family land instead of all living under one roof. I kind of get it with JR in that he would have wanted to be close to the folks so he knew all that was going on, but Bobby and Pam don’t make sense.

I drive by Southfork Ranch all the time and take for granted people from around the world were obsessed with Dallas and fly around the world to see that place.
very underwhelming considering it's just a big yard and no ranch.

I live about five miles from Southfork and drive by it 3-4 times a week.

As far as living under one roof, the rich ain’t like you and me. If that series ran today they would have a much more palatial crib.

If they each had their own wing that would make sense.

If I remember right, in the pilot first five episodes, they were actually living in separate small houses on the property.
