Many also defected. Are you really so thick as to say nobody has ever defected because they thought what was happening was wrong?

Sounds like you wanted it to start 10 years prior to when it did.
There are plenty of books to steal ideas from. And they have actually with some of the new characters. But I think the age of the original actors might have handcuffed the writers some. And I'm not sure fans would have wanted another movie driven by political changes. And it doesn't surprise me that that's what you want.

i get that
i don't have as much of a problem of the jump start into being a "good guy" as my problem that his personality is far too developed and sassy for a military drone. to bring up an example from earlier, yes, NK military guys defect. they're not cracking wise arse jokes with the enemy 10 minutes after making that decision

humans are very malleable and morality is a function of our development. history has shown that it's very easy to have moral people devolve into immorality. WWII was only 60 years ago and plenty of normal germans did horrible things. go watch the act of killing
My lai massacre was in the 60s. An entire company of American infantry killed hundreds of women and children because their captain ordered them too. And these were young men who had grown up in regular households with parents who lived them and presumably taught them some morals. But they got caught up in the moment and followed their orders.

You are delving way too deep into psychoanalytical BS for a movie that's simply meant to be fun.

So what's everyone new Episodic rankings?
I'm going to watch it again a few more times before I solidify its spot in the rankings. But it will fall in either 2nd or 3rd:
Empire
A New Hope/Force Awakens
Jedi
Sith
Clones
Menace

i mean this movie was based around just this
your "bad guys" are going to want/have power and the "good guys" will want to establish/takeover to distribute good
the new orders is a political movement

uh
have you ever seen episodes 4 and 5? recall what obi wan and yoda primarily discussed? it wasn't "fun" and didn't involve jump cuts

But we don't get the details! Just the fights and decisions/stories of the characters. Which was back to the OT.

Empire
Force Awakens (Visually it's the best of them all)
A New Hope
Jedi
Sith
Clones
Menace

In real life, sure. But you do that in a movie and you get a character boring enough to be cast in the Prequels.

Well this thread was fun until the trolls and OML got a hold of it.
Guess you would know something about highjacking threads, right GCA?

quote:Yes, a green soldier not wanting to murder civilians is MEH and boring. I liked Finn's character, he didn't want to be a part of genocide and really wanted to just get the frick out of Dodge. He found friends along the way and was conflicted afterwards whether he should join them or run away like he wants to. He decides he cares and steps up to try his best to help them.
How about a soldier seeing his first real combat and ordered by his Captain to murder civilians and choosing not to?
Because that is boring and doesn't leave much room for growth or depth. Just a dumb kid who saw his buddy killed and didn't want to shoot women and children. Just kind of mhh to me.

the OT discussed the problems of empire and the superiority of the old republic plenty
i mean the bureaucratic grey/black to the uniformed stormtroopers to the reasoning behind tie fighters v. the rebel ships is all about this difference. my thin plot outline doesn't get into anymore detail than this. it just flips the roles
Posted on 12/19/15 at 9:25 pm to SlowFlowPro
That's high level stuff about emotion and fear. You were getting into behavioral tendencies of a soldier when tasked with murdering innocents. Come on!

again, the whole problem with the character. he starts from a bad base. the foundation is weak

all 1000 are going to follow orders and never question their orders?
no
but they won't not kill some people b/c they randomly decide "it's not the right thing to do"

I think so.
And I also think that the scenario I laid out in that post that you ignored would have made a much better movie.

Discussing the problems was one thing. Following around the political decision makers for half a movie is another.
If I misunderstood your plot, my apologies. I'm was just thinking of what would be taking place ten years prior to TFA in the context of what you described. And all I see is political maneuvering. No thanks!

Thank you. That's what I've been saying. Frankly, they were just lazy with Finns character. Really disappointing
