hy is it so important for those of you who hated the movie to convince others that it was terrible?
it's like an essay that was clearly written the night before after skimming through some sections of reading material at a breakneck pace.

People mad about Ackbar and Lando being absent in the film are just dumb.
Ackbar was in the film. They even spoke about his death in the initial battle.

That’s just it. I’m not trying hard at all. The movie made it real easy
I still cannot wrap my head around the dumb arse decisions made by Rian with this film.
JJ has a lot of work ahead of him but there are opportunities to redeem this trilogy. I’d be down for a 4 hour finale with the opening scroll reading “Rey awakens from her force meditative state and realizes TLJ was just a dream. Luke, standing behind her, asks his daughter what she saw, knowing full well the dark side played a cruel joke on her.”

Just curious on why y'all are trying so hard.
I've been a massive fan of star wars since I walked out the theater at 11 years old after seeing Phantom Menace.
I loved all 7 previous movies, played the video games, read the books, and watched the animated series. I'm a Star Wars fan boy and Disney bought the franchise I love and then hired a hack director who systematically destroyed everything about the franchise from the basic rules of the universe to the actual characters in it and who admits that he made the movie as a frick you to the entire Star Wars universe because he didn't wanna to try to make a movie that we'd like.
Do to understand why I'm upset?

Here's what I said this morning:
quote:
If Disney hired me to write IX, the first line of the crawl would be:
Rey Awakens from a long nightmare that showed her a possible future she cannot accept. Convinced that she must stop that future from happening she leaves Leia and the other resistance Fighters on a quest to find Luke Skywalker and deliver his father's light saber. With the map now complete, she goes off to find the last Jedi Temple.
I'd straight retcon the entire Episode VIII out of existence and start over.

Hour long Episode 8.5 special on a streaming service to retcon 8 before a 3 hour 9?
Something, anything, to break from the crap Rian put out.

I agree with everything in your post.
But us fanboys are the idiots who are trying to hard to hate something that is spectacular. That’s what is really happening right?

Y'know, to be fair and honest, not all things need to be made for all people. That's why we have variety in life.
Star Wars used to be about this
Now it's about this
I mean, I don't know what to tell you, other than the 2 just don't mix.
I'm in it for the first group and what it repesents. I loved the cool scifi military stuff.
Don't care about diversity or lack therof, or for cutesy kiddie stuff.
I guess this makes me an awful ... man.

Other than Jar Jar being the real big bad of the entire prequels, I agree with your post and that's a depressing dichotomy

Guess I will add my .02...
I saw it today and I am ambivalent about it. Didn't hate it and didn't love it. Some things were pretty cool and some things sucked.
Things that sucked:
Finn/Rose story - all of it
Luke tossing the light saber
A lot of the attempted humor
Snoke's exit w/ no explanation of who he is/was
Rey's parentage (unless a feint and Ren was fricking with her)
Poe's emasculation
Hux's constant screaming
Leia "flying"
Laura Dern
Things that didn't suck:
Rey/Ridley
Ren/Driver
Luke/Hamill
Rey's training
Rey/Ren's connection
Rey/Ren fighting Snoke's guards
Space battles
Attack on the base at end
Luke's final act and exit
Puppet Yoda

someone in another thread just posted Rey and Ren vs Guard scene . WARNING: the music has been replaced by Led Zeppelin
Man I honestly forgot how amazing that scene was. By that point over 2 hours into that shitty slog of a movie I was barely even paying attention anymore.
After all these threads you know what really would've saved the movie? Cut out the entire hour plus completely irrelevant bullshite of Rose and Finn and Laura Dern and Poe and Leia and BB8 and just make the movie a tight about 80/90 minutes of Rey, Ren, and Luke. Non of that other shite it in an way consequential or necessary to the plot any way.
I'll wait for a fan to do that before I rewatch it.
What a sad waste this movie was. Adam Driver and the character of Kylo is completely wasted on this trilogy. He's been amazing. I hope they give him a solo movie just with the training under Luke and Knights of Ren. Maybe Disney will redeem itself that way.

Each character has an arc.
You said that not me.
And you don't read do you. I never said a protagonist or antagonist doesn't need an arc.
And those two in this trilogy are seeming to have pretty amazing arcs that is moving this story forward to a conclusion that no one has a clue about.
And that's why u are pissed.
Yeah, they didn't ask for your or fox or any of the other 15 guys melting in this thread's opinion.
Boo hoo.
Its not as bad as you claim. But keep making fun of me and hash. That'll make you feel better.
Your last few posts only confirm what I said about dudes that hate this movie.

Adam Driver deserves his own solo movie with Mark Hamill detailing Luke's building of the temple, training of Ben, Snoke's backstory, the fall of Ben and transformation to Kylo, and then the formation of the Knights of Ren and the burning of the temple. Just make that trilogy and do it right. frick humor and light hearted bullshite. Hire a competent director and a team of writers and bring Hamil back and give him the Luke we deserve and make a new generation of amazing characters based around Snoke and Kylo and the Knights OF Ren. If Disney wants to go off and do its own thing fine, but can it make that amazing trilogy just for the fans and do it right?

I'm as much a fan boy as you are.
I didn't hate it. I really liked it.
I am excited to see where it goes.
I am also terrified it may end horribly rushed and unsatisfying. But that hasn't happened yet and I'll wait to see. But that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy what I saw.
I'm a dude with 10 or more original vehicles, over 100 original characters at one point, an ewok village, an original falcon. I saved my upcs to mail order the first emperor figure who wasn't available in stores. All of those are in my parents attic and so worn and played with that while collectable they are worthless.
I guess I am just an idiot for liking something that "killed" star wars.
Whatever

As a matter of fact id love it it Disney just green lit this story line as a three hour episode IX and let JJ and Kasdan show you all of the backstory and characters they created in TFA and then just had Episode X end the fricking quadrilogy.
That's how they can redeem themselves.
