On April 30th, 2027, we’ll celebrate the 50th anniversary of Star Wars with a re-release of the 1977 classic back for a limited time, in theaters everywhere.
Part of Lucasfilm’s yearlong 50th anniversary celebration, Star Wars: A New Hope will play in theaters over the May the 4th holiday, also known as Star Wars Day.
Switch on your targeting computer and keep your eyes on Star Wars. com for more details, including when and where to buy tickets to this once-in-a-generation event.

I'm already skeptical. The movie released in 1977 was called "Star Wars".
Will it be a cleaned-up version of the original cut? Does Han shoot first?

I think you’re going to be highly disappointed.

I'll go. If they really wanted to go all out for the 50th anniversary they would remaster the christmas special and put that in theaters between Black Friday and Christmas day.
I'll bet they'd make a killing on it just because how notorious it is

I have a counter idea. Atomize the “life day” special and release the original Star Wars non-CG version as it was initially released.
Maybe touch up some of the original CG as it was intended, give Vader fully smoked dark tinted glasses, but stick to the original idea.
No weird monsters in the background. No repetitive Han Solo and CG Jabba scene where they basically repeat everything that was said in the Cantina.
Just proper SW.

If you’re speaking of this one I totally agree and the guy who made it could milk a lot of $$$ from Lucas for it. lol.

quote:It’s gonna be the 2019 Disney “Maclunkey” version with shitty CGI Jabba, but I don’t care because I want to experience the OG Star Wars in a theater. Worth it for the opening chase scene alone.

Not how it works.

I mean sure if you want to get technical. I hate the special versions as much as the next guy but it’s still 90% the same as the original cut and we aren’t getting a release of the original cut.
