So are they going to abandon the political story line from last season? God, I hope so.

This seems the opposite of what they had planned for this season according to an interview a few months back. They said flat out that they don't want to do more political commentary. This seems to be exactly that.

The Breesus signal is up.

Why does that seem to be "political" commentary?

That's borderline political at best. It's social commentary at worst, which they also seemed to hint at that they would avoid going forward and try to make more stories about the 4 boys aka Breesus's wet dream

Yeah the premise seems to be what they said they were trying to avoid

South Park has always had some form of political commentary, so I doubt they said that. Now, they did say that they weren't going to do the serialization anymore.

Exactly.

They always made episodes about current events. The neo-nazis are an easy target. Should be a good episode.

The political commentary is when they are best.

They got caught up in "taking sides" and that is what I hope they are able to avoid this season.

There is a lot to make fun of in today's world. Hope all the pussies of the world get equally offended

The only thing they said was that the Trump shite is boring and they weren't going to do that, and there wont be a serial season and that every episode will stand alone.

My God, I hope that holds true.

And the best part about this is that I had no idea SP was starting back this week. I am truly excited about this.

This. They've always taken on current events and put their own spin on it. I'm glad it looks like they're going back to their old stuff

Here's the interview I was referencing

quote:

Parker said. Instead, you can expect more of what Parker calls “the bread and butter” of South Park, which he defines simply as “kids being ridiculous and outrageous.” The ratings might take a hit, but Parker says he and Stone have been waiting to get run out of Hollywood for decades anyway, so they’re pretty content with their decision to detach from the reaction machine.

I took "kids being ridiculous and outrageous" to be moving away from social commentary as well, but I guess they could have just meant moving away from serialization and Trump.

And I disagree that South Park's always provided social commentary. The first few seasons were mostly original stories about the 4 boys, while picking on certain celebrities (Barbara Streisand). I felt that this was their "bread and butter" until the show turned into "let's make fun of what's going on in society lately." That became their bread and butter for the majority of episodes since those first few seasons.

I remember Trey saying they were done lampooning Trump because the reality of him being president was funnier than anything they could write. I don't remember saying anything about abandoning political satire.

1. they already did an episode like this with the south park flag.

2. I thought we were going to see the kids playing cops or lord of the rings type shite

3. I don't want them to abandon political and social satire, but they whiffed so badly on it last year, it raises an eyebrow that they're leading off with it this year especially since parker gave an interview to that effect.

I don't want them to either, but I'd like more original stories that don't rely on political and social satire as their bases.

Yeah, I don't mind serialization as long as it only goes 2-3 episodes the most. The season-long thing was just such a drag
