Sons of Anarchy Question, Season 7, Episode One

*SPOILERS AHEAD*
I’ve been binge watching SOA and have to rate it with Breaking Bad as a great series, though a notch or so behind.
I’m on episode one in season seven, and have a question on what seems to be a plot hole. Please answer only if you can without season seven spoilers.
In S7E1, DA Patterson tells Jax, “we’re letting you go,” saying he was not a suspect in Tara’s murder. What happened to the agreement where Jax would turn himself in as the source of the KG-9 the kid used in the school shooting and would serve “at least seven, before parole”? I don’t see how Tara’s death would affect that deal. I thought Jax was in jail after pleading guilty to the gunrunning charge, and Patterson talked like he was there only as a suspect for killing Tara and/or Roosevelt. It seems starting with season six, the writing gets a little careless in places.
What am I missing?

I'm sure someone can give a more detailed answer but I'll do my best.
Tara's murder did not only disrupt it, her being alive was part of the deal between Jax and the D.A.
Patterson really had no concrete evidence on Jax or the Club but I think she knew they were involved.
Jax wanted Tara and the kids safe. Jax turning himself in was going to be the trade in for that, along with a statement about the guns. The statement is the important thing for Patterson and the D.A. Jax did not give that statement since Tara is dead so there is nothing to trade.
So the D.A. has no statement and no evidence against the club. I can't remember what Patterson and Jax talked about in the first episode though. Anyone

I liked SOA but there is no way it is nearly as good as BB.

I can give you a better summary of the episode.
"Jax has to make a difficult decision that will have big consequences for the MC".

There were commercials during Breaking Bad that featured better writing than Sons of Anarchy.

It's odd. When I was in the midst of SOA, there were many moments I was so into it that I'd stay up wayyy late at night just to get that next episode in and remember being pretty taken by many occurrences. At that time.
But for some reason, despite all that, I don't have a very favorable opinion about the show now. I'm honestly not sure why that is.

I really hope they don't have to make an uneasy alliance.

I love SOA but no, just no
Granted, you haven't seen it all yet and let's just say the last couple seasons aren't as good as the first few IMHO

Especially with some unlikely allies.
