and unless somebody pulls a lucas, the original is still unchanged. nobody is destroying your childhood b/c the remake of TMNT doesn't have ninja foot soldiers (and the TMNT went through multiple interpretations prior to the movies that were made, and then underwent others after)
I think the Star Wars prequels have negatively impacted the legacy of the first 2 which are just classic cinema. However, my problem with remakes is not the degradation of the original material. I just hate seeing the same thing twice (an more often than not, I'm getting an inferior version with a remake)
I just miss original ideas in cinema, television is the new frontier for new ideas and I don't like that direction.

Surely you're not arguing that remakes are not out of hand?
i don't see why it matters much
other than the fact that financially successful remakes make other movies possible (a GREAT example is the success of TDK allowing inception to be made), some remakes are fricking great (21 jump street, the aforementioned batman, etc)
like i've said before, unless they pull a lucas (where the originals are removed from circulation), who cares? if you love the original version so much, go watch it. a remake won't affect it, and you don't have to watch the remake

I don't, but the more of these turds that are made, the fewer original concepts and ideas make their way to the big screen.

Like I said, they don't bother me in that manner.

More than anything it's about finding new audiences for the story that have very little reference for the original.
