Just saw it for the first time.
I mean, shite was good, but wsa it really the best 2008 had to offer? I don't watch many newer movies as their whack IMO
Indian chick was pretty hot though, IWHI. :lol
In conclusion, I liked it, but some of my friends cajoled me into thinking it would be an awe inspiring experience watching it... just didn't get that vibe.

hmm ok... haven't seen it but not really a big fan of insanely long movies... i think i'm too ADD to appreciate them so i just stay away

I agree with this. I mean, it wasn't bad, but I think it is way overrated. I thought The Wrestler was better.

I haven't seen doubt, but the Wrestler follows the same pattern as Gran Torino.
I think the only reason the academy resents Titanic is Good Will Hunting. Slumdog doesn't have a Good Will Hunting.

The people who overhyped the movie to you probably had never seen any similar films before and this was their first glimpse at shitty life in the 3rd world. Realizing how awesome it is to be born in America instead of a place like India or Africa can have a strong emotional impact. If you're already aware of how lucky you are, it's just another international movie.
Slumdog was a decent movie but it's definitely benefitting from weak competition.
