I am growing increasingly annoyed with the ostensibly obligatory romantic sub-plots in many shows that have little or nothing to do with the main thrust of the story. I often find myself fast-forwarding through that stuff.

In season two of Breaking Bad, when Walt let slip a comment about his other cell phone when he was under sedation, elicited a groan from me. I just knew that we were opening up the Skylar business again after that had disappeared for a few episodes. I think this, and many other shows, would be so much better if they just kept the focus on the main story line.

So this thread is a midseries plot discussion you wish to have without spoilers about one of the most watched and popular shows of all time that is already over and has been for 4 year?

I'm just asking if you want spoilers or if you've never seen the show. This thread is kind of bizarre timing wise.

Kind of critical questions before we can have a discussion, don't you think?

The effect Walt's activities had on his family was a main storyline, as was his effort to keep it completely hidden from them, especially considering his wife's sister's husband was a DEA agent.

Unless you are talking about Ted. Ted sucked.

SPOILERZ!!!!

Ted's "abduction" and getting sent to the hospital was one of the funniest things I've ever seen....

That and when Walt and Jessie kidnapped Saul and brought him out in to the dessert. The poms on top the ski maskes make me laugh every time I see it.

ETA: and Skyler sucked. That is all.

I figured that anyone who ever cared about watching this show had already seen it. Given the age of the show, I didn't think a minor detail was much of a spoiler. Since virtually everyone on this site has seen the show, I was simply eliciting replies from others regarding this issue.

I do see the other poster's point regarding the family plot line, but I do think they could have handled it differently.

I think one of the themes is that there is no black and white. Everyone has faults. Interestingly, Walt never cheats. In his mind that is taboo. Skyler, on the other hand.........

If you don't realize how Skyler and Walt's relationship is a main part of the story, then you're looking for something wrong in the show.

I bet you thought Mad Men was awesome because Don Draper fricked all those hot bitches.

Well... it kind of was for the first couple of seasons. What's so wrong with escapism as a reason for watching a television show? Maybe some people don't want to watch on the little screen things that they have to deal with on a daily basis-like a subplot involving a husband/wife relationship.

So you're saying the show would have been better if Walt's family life was easy going?

Interesting take.

Yeah it was very annoying on BB and I was also really annoyed with t on Ozark too. The sulking wife who eventually shows she can be just as corrupt as her husband shtick is played out.

He did try to hook up with the principal after Skyler cheated on him. He was shot down with the quickness.

I think Walt's relationship with Skylar is one of the major narrative devices that the the show used to depict his character development.

From her giving him a pity hand job on his birthday, to him hitting that shite aggressively from behind when he was feeling his oats, to him trying it again and her balking later on.

CellPhonegate was a part of that relationship development and used to ratchet up the tension factor in his web of lies growing more entangling and making him do things like lie to his family more and more.

All IMHO of course.

That principal was fine as a frog's hair.

Hal from Malcolm in the Middle might have made a pass at her.
