Further, J.R.R. Tolkien established that the Great Eagles are not a "taxi service". They are sentient, proud, and independent spirits created by the Valar and would have been easily corrupted by the One Ring's power. Because the Ring demands dominion, a powerful Eagle carrying it might have become a massive threat itself. Finally, the success of the quest relied completely on stealth; Sauron's gaze was entirely focused on war, allowing the Hobbits to slip into Mordor unnoticed.

It was mentioned in the Hobbit that there were Men who had exceptionally large and powerful bows that discouraged the Eagles from raiding their flocks of sheep. Obviously the need for that type of weaponry was born out of the proximity to the threat, as well the fact that sometimes the Eagles did indeed raid their flocks. But that doesn't preclude the armies of Mordor from either having or coming up with such weapons themselves.

So he did have an effect on the action.
She’s alive at the end because of Indy.
Also, the Ark wouldn't have fallen into the hands of the US Government at the end had Indy not been there. It would’ve remained in the hands of the Nazis.
Also, the US Government tasks Indy specifically because he knows Marion and her father. He has special knowledge about the Ark and why the Nazis would want it. He’s the only person the US government would task, so his presence in the narrative is inevitable.
However, if we follow Amy’s thinking that Indy does not need to be involved for the events to turn out the same way, you could easily surmise that the US Government would’ve found another way to get to Marion before the Nazis did.
That’s why Amy’s point is stupid. You could make her point about The Last Crusade and many other movies as well.
Examples:
Does 007 specifically need to go on those other missions? Couldn’t another 00 fill in and achieve the same goal?
Moulin Rouge would’ve ended with Satine dying and the Moulin Rouge going out of business with or without Christian there.
Someone else would’ve gone to go get Private Ryan had all of the crew died on the beach in Normandy.
If Steve Rogers isn’t at boot camp, they find someone else to take the super serum to become Captain America.
Close Encounters would end the same without Richard Dreyfuss because the aliens still would’ve arrived in the same exact place.
One way or another, Shelby dies of kidney failure no matter what anybody does for her.
The fact that the main character is or isn’t there isn’t the point of the storyteller is trying to make. It’s a pithy and out of character response from Amy put in by the writers to get a cheap laugh at Sheldon’s expense.
