It's probably not a legit breakthrough. There's likely some timebomb that'll frick Gavin over and save our boys to fight another day, but only after he's tortured them for a bunch of episodes. Yay, more scenes with Richard throwing up.

I did see it, but the idea that Gavin was going to directly stick it to Richard again is what stuck with me for whatever reason.

but if you rewatch the office episodes with Gabe you'll find them hilarious because you understand Zach Woods' sense of humor so much more now

In a subversive way, I think this show is ultimately going to be revealed as Jared as the protagonist and Jin Yiang as the antagonist - characters there from the very beginning and are actually following a character arc.
Richard is the faux protagonist and Gavin is the faux antagonist - but they just circle each other and reset - there is little-to-no character growth, progression (good or bad), really all they have is the conflict which isn't enough for a true protagonist/antagonist relationship.
Look at the arcs of Jared and Jin Yiang and tell me I'm wrong (although Jin Yiang appears to be out at the moment, we've counted him out before).
