Top 5 in wrestling does not equal greatest of all time in entertainment. If I walk up to a stranger on the street and recite the quote "I find your lack of faith desturbing". 9 out of ten will immediately recognize it as Darth Vader. I doubt 1 in a 1,000 would recognize a Vince McMahon quote.

I'll take that bet all day. You overrate the general public, especially with that quote.

You also severely underestimate the pop culture phenomena that was wrestling in the late 90s and early 00s.

Only complaint is not letting Shane run the company. Shane seemed to truly love and understand the business and how to run it. Evidence by his jumping off titantrons etc.

Shane has zero desire to run the business or be involved with creative. That's why he left. Stephanie is the one who is passionate about it.

If you played his walk out music I bet a large part of society would recognize it.

I’m not big into wrestling, but that Austin/McMahon fued along with the Rock, HHH, DX, Mick Foley and others was really great TV. Good plots, characters, twists and action.

After my disgust with the current product, I started rewatching Raw on the network following when Austin beat Michaels at Mania. The product in 1998 was just superb. The crowds were rabid and engaging.

But Vince McMahon is just superb as an actor in the role he played. His facial expressions, timing, and mannerisms are second to none. He is amazing and could easily have been a legit actor.

I haven't watched wrestling since Jr high, but every once in a blue moon I'll do a drive by on Mondays. I won't even watch it for 5 minutes. But for those of us who remember the Monday Night Wars, it is one of the most fascinating, entertaining times in media history.

I don't know if people can fathom how big if a Deal wrestling was in the late 90s...and Vince was essentially the architect of it all. Without him buying WWF from his father, then Ted Turner wanting in on the action, the whole thing never happens.

McMahon was nearly bankrupt and knew he had to go so far above and beyond what was thought of it became a magnificent product.

I remember even my parents knowing what the nWo was and who Steve Austin was and Paige was, and Hart, and Vince, etc etc.

McMahon deserves a place as one if the all time televison geniuses AND TV villains... And it shouldn't be debatable.

Preach.

The Mr. McMahon character is one of his greatest creations, without it, who is Stone Cold's worthy enemy? Everything about the McMahon character worked, I firmly believe if he never went that route WCW would have won.

Vince McMahon was awesome as a villain. I absolutely loved watching him come out on raw this Monday doing his strut. Then he insulted his kids and the crowd after. Then stone cold came out and stunned him and Shane. It was great just like old times ??

And yes wcw had him on the ropes, but you gotta give it to him. He came back swinging and it lead to the attitude era and victory over the wcw.

It was great to watch, just wish Stone Cold got to talk. I had to go back and watch some of my favorite segments with McMahon, the Torrie Wilson one is definitely one of my favorites. Vince knew what needed to be done to make himself successful and he's a true inspiration in that regard. If you read the things Chris Jericho writes about him in his books you'll see just how dedicated and hard working he is.

I'm pretty sure he didn't want to run it with his Sister and her husband.

There is a difference. He loved the company and ran away from it the same way everyone else did.

Obviously he is top 5 in wrestling but to me he is one of the greatest in TV history.

Hell the guy probably could have won an Oscar if he got into acting.

Of course. He made certain employees literally kiss his arse in public, set his own daughter up to be mock crucified by an otherworldly man, fired and embarrassed employees in public, made Trish Startus bark like a dog, made out with other women (including a few times in front of his wheelchair bound wife), etc, etc. Easily the GOAT villain.

That was the height of wrestling. But WWE Raw has been declining in ratings ever since WWE acquired WCW in 2001. I don't ever see it coming back to that level.

Competition drove the creative teams to top themselves every week. The creative team for WWE today is shite.

Of course it's a made up statistic. You don't honestly think I walked out to the street corner before posting to conduct a impromptu poll do you? LoL
