What are your all's thoughts on this show? I think it definitely got better with the addition of Cuban. Kinda funny to see some of these stupid ideas.

I want to draw a cat for you has been my favorite sales pitch out of everyone. You see that one?
Posted on 3/19/12 at 11:46 pm to iluvdatiger
I have not, I just kind of got in to it. So far the most ridiculous was the woman who was trying to sell an add on to a laptop for post it notes. So pointless.

I like Cuban also. Kevin is an enormous a-hole to the point he sometimes misses out of opporunities you could tell he wanted b/c if given the choice, everyone would rather deal with the other people. I'm sure he isn't hurting or anything, but wow is he an a-hole.

Yeah I noticed that too, he is all about hard revenue and profits. No matter what business the people bring up he always tries to pretty much confuse them and take as much as possible. Probably a reason he is so loaded.

I can't believe the Readerest magnetic glasses clip was successful. People actually walk around with some cold metal against their bare chests, with their glasses hanging down off the front of their shirt? That's a Navin R. Johnson level idea. I could have made a prototype from the hard drive actuator magnet I stuck to the fridge years ago as a joke (it's very strong and hard to remove). Why can't I think of stupid shite like the Readerest?

I remember seeing the one where the guy was trying to market the idea of selling a single glass of wine in stores. One of the guys bought the idea, and now I am seeing them in Walmart.

i like to watch the sharks run numbers and counter proposals on the fly. People like the sharks have a completely different perspective than most. Impressive.
my wife made the same observation. we watched that episode and thought it was a poor idea. Now the shite is in convenience stores.

friday nights
its an awesome show
and yea, kevin is an a-hole, and he's also ALWAYS the first person to bring up revenues and sales, the other sharks will let the person keep up with their cutesy pitch, but Kevin always cuts in and says something along the lines of "thats great, lets talk about money"

Wasn't it the lady who owned QVC that bought the readerest? She bundled it with reading glasses or something. Great thinking bc I reallyy can only see QVC type women buying that shite.
What about the guitar guy who had a device to teach you to play in a day? That was good stuff too. But still, the I Want To Draw A Cat For You was such a funny pitch that I immediately went to his website to find out more about it and the site had crashed. I think Mark Cuban ended up partnering with him.

I like the show but I would rather see a little more follow up on some of the previously pitched ideas (even if the sharks turned them down).
One of my favorites was the guy that had the little air filters you put over your nostrils that could barely be seen. They all laughed at the idea until he whipped out signed contracts for millions of dollars. Then they were all fighting to get in on the deal. I've wondered how that one worked out for him.

I love the show. I've watched every season. I think most people who sell controlling interest in their business get royally screwed. You hear a few success stories, but most of them get lowballed for >50%, when the sharks are just interested in getting the patent for what is chump change to them. They'll shop it around, and if it doesn't immediately take off, they'll just toss it.
But there are also a lot of people on that show that don't realize that they need to have an established record of success to get interest from the sharks. Mark freaking Cuban doesn't have time to devote 20 hours a week to helping you build your automatic apple peeler, no matter how "good of an idea" it is. It's funny every time someone gives a great pitch for their business, and asks for $75K for 10%, and then reveals they've only done $5k in sales in 2 years.

yeah some of the evals these people come up with are hilarious. they end up fricking themselves in the end, because of the way the rules are set, you have to get the full amount you are asking for.

I love Cuban on the show though it kinda sucks because he can outbid all the sharks combined. QVC lady is a lot better than Barbara as well, she actual bids on people.
Posted on 3/20/12 at 9:17 pm to spehog
cuban isnt going to outbid anyone for the hell of it. he is a business man and will only make a deal that makes sense.
Posted on 3/20/12 at 9:31 pm to jcole4lsu
I know that but when he does want something he simply out muscles the others. Usually Kevin .
