For what the movie is and supposed to be, I thought it was ok. In my opinion, somewhere behind scream 1 and 2, but definitely better than scream 4.

The only problem I had with it was the killers and their motive. They wanted to reboot the series and give the fans what they want…. Just seems like it was very random.

Since they were playing up Woodsboro, Stu’s house, and Billy’s estranged daughter, I thought it would be perfect to have the killers be linked to someone killed in one of the older movies. Steven Orth, Casey Becker, principle Himbry, the camera man (reaching here). But something linking it back to the original for a motive.

Loved how they had Randy‘a niece and nephew in it. The kills at the Hick’s house were pretty cool. And seeing Dewey go out in a blaze of glory was an intense scene.

Was not expecting to see Wendy Peffercorn get murdered

It wasn't real motivations. They were just pawns to comment on "toxic internet fandom". The writers tried to be super meta when it's normal now so they had to really reach and that supplanted a coherent villain story.

People take their entertainment way too seriously these days and get way too upset about something that ultimately means very little. Just like you are doing right now.

Really want to watch it, but I couldn't wait so I jumped in this thread. I'll still watch it obviously, but it sounds similar to 4 from what y'all are talking about.

I'm not upset

I didn't want to see this. I had no expectations.

I consider real film to be art, so it does have lots of value to me.

Clearly I didn't judge this as a film, just a movie. If your bar for enjoyment is low or you're a Scream fanboy, I'm sure this movie is fine.

It shows.

And that’s your other issue. Film is what is recorded on, or what it was recorded on. Movies have always been about entertainment. That’s their purpose, that’s why they exist.

Not all movies, hence why some get the pretentious label as films. All films are movies. Not all movies are films.

I don't only enjoy high art, though. I'm always down for an entertaining movie as long as it's good. I like all sorts of movies that critics dislike, like Pain and Gain.

This movie? Sucked. They're not all good.

Still want to see it. I would classify the original scream as "film" and art. The sequels to groundbreaking horror films sometimes (almost always) don't live up to the hype. I was hoping they would shed their shell and go back to the original and come up with something super creative to end it, not set it up for another franchise with 13 reasons why kid.

Hell the scream show (the season I watched definitely was filmed in BR) was not good.

Just got out. I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t great. Like someone already said, the kills and the amped up gore helped ghostface continue to be menacing.

The conversations with Billy were unnecessary. Simply showing pictures of him here n there would’ve been better in letting the audience remember him and what he did. Talking to “ghost” Billy looked goofy, same as Sid’s mom in Scream 3. I’m sure it played up Sam’s tortured psyche and made her a red herring, but still.

Randy’s niece’s monologue was a bit too much. It lessened the impact of the killers’ motives reveal at the end. It could’ve been trimmed alot.

Killers’ motives could’ve been more effective. Something was missing. I don’t mind their motives—it’s on par with alot of the previous killers’:

Mickey’s partially commented on murder trials’ attention and the effects of cinema violence on society. Mrs. Loomis wanted revenge, classic sequel motive. Billy and Roman’s were family related, but Roman was more envious of Sid. Jill was envious of Sid, wanted attention. Stu and Charlie (Culkin) were moreso followers.

These two killers were more based on obsession, nostalgia, and toxic fans, which made me briefly roll my eyes. But it’s kind of on par with the others. I guess if at least one of them had a personal connection similar to the previous 4 main killers, it would’ve had more impact. Maybe.

Yeah the OG Scream is a great movie.

It introduced meta to horror movies and did it in a real smart/slick way. I'm not a fan of any other movies in the franchise, though.

I was a little let down that the killers weren’t related to the original cast seeing how the entire marketing of the movie was focused on the past and connections to it.

I was waiting for Ritchie to be Stu’s long lost son or brother or something.

They did leave themselves an opportunity to continue the franchise with a new lead should they decide on it.

I loved it. You get the usual handful of bad actors, corny lines and overtly meta references that come with a scream film, but I thought it was well done.

I absolutely loved how they essentially made fans who are angry about The Last Jedi into the killers. In the film, they even said Rian Johnson directed Stab 8 (Star Wars 8…lol…). Brilliant script writing.

I saw it earlier today. I enjoyed it until the final act. The motivations for both killers were very weak. I think it still ranks above Scream 3 but the killers in this film were the weakest of the franchise for me, even if the kills were more brutal.

Just saw it. Everything was great until the reveal. They almost ruined it when they kicked everyone out of the party.

The reveal, like everyone else has said, was weak. The writers need to work on motive for these killers because they’ve sucked recently.

One question:

Who’s the mom Billy Loomis slept with? Did I miss it?

I was surprised they just glossed over that. Apparently she was the town drunk with a big mouth.

Who didn't come home from a job trip to Europe after her daughter was brutally attacked and almost died.

I think that bugged me more than anything. At least make up a better excuse than that for her not coming home.

Oh yeah and she had a major connection to the original but yeah let’s just gloss over that.

Nah. They didn't cover it, but my fan-fiction brain immediately shot to the cheerleader talking shite about Sidney to her friend in the bathroom while Sidney was hiding out in the stall.
