Anyone going? It’s showing in select theaters for 75th anniversary of D-Day. Got my tickets for 7pm showing in Baton Rouge!

If they did this with a double feature..what other military movie should they play with it to be on par, and hold equal standing with SPR?

Dunkirk took place in 1940.
Saving Private Ryan began on June 6, 1944.

I saw it in the theater when it came out. One of the best theater experiences I’ve had.

SPR will always hold a special place for me. I used the landing craft through "Dog One is open" scene in various leadership classes over the years. I also believe it is the last film I ever watched at the cinema with my father.
And it is certainly appropriate for the occasion here.
But, the film has not aged well with me. Beautifully shot, of course, and reasonably well acted, the plot just continues to be indecipherable.
I get the allegorical nature of it, but it is incomprehensible to take an elite unit out of the line, in the middle of a critical battle, to scour a battlefield for one soldier who was in the one unit that was scattered over dozens of kilometers.
Didn't make any sense then. Doesn't make any sense now. Can't make any sense in the reasonable future.
(ETA: Hell, even Ryan himself indicated it didn't make any sense.)

There is a clause in the military called "last survivor".
You have to get a waiver to deploy to combat if you are a male and an only child and you don't have children of your own.

Never heard of that. Never had any questions about it.

They ask you about it during SRP.
