Sacha Baron Cohen pulls out of Freddie Mercury biopic

He cites creative differences with Queen. The band wants it to be a PG-rated film about Queen while Cohen wants the story to be an R-rated, gritty biopic centered around Freddie Mercury.
Needless to say I'm disappointed because this thing was loaded with talent before Cohen dropped out. David Fincher and Tom Hooper were the two finalists set to direct the film while Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost vs. Nixon) was writing the screenplay.

A shame...the only actor that I thought could have done a good job.

That's stupid on Queen's part.
Cohen's vision sounds much more interesting and sincere.

I hope they work it out. Was really looking forward to this one.

Has he ever done a serious role? I could see this movie being one of those ones he just crushes and every one is amazed by it. There seems to be a comedian who nails this type of role from time to time critically (Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx). Not surprising to me considering all the characters comedians do play on shows, but still cool to see when it happens.
Hope they work it out as someone said.

I don't understand how you could make a PG movie about Freddie Mercury. The man was a drug loving sex fiend who died of fricking AIDS. Don't see how you could pull a PG movie out of that.

I was about to ETA my post with that thought.

His role in Les Miserables wasn't necessarily serious, but it's a farcry from Borat and Bruno. I was impressed with his performance in Les Mis.

He's pissed because he doesn't get to do as much gay stuff on camera as he wanted.

Yea this fvcking sucks. Of all the bands I'd expect to embrace their past and history, Queen seemed like they'd fit that bill.
Why are they now trying to portray a false image of themselves? They never did in the past, and that's why people loved them.
Fvck! Like some said, I expected Cohen to be absolutely brilliant in this role.

There's no way you're gonna have another big box office success with a lot of male on male action anytime soon. Hollywood blew their load with Brokeback Mountain.

Damn he would be the perfect actor to do it
