quote:And you don't know what "adjusted score" means, my man.
You’re proving my point by not knowing what RT score means
quote:
Movies with 40 or more critic reviews vie for their place in history at Rotten Tomatoes. Eligible movies are ranked based on their Adjusted Scores.
quote:
There is no “formula” or anything of that matter
quote:
Each critic from our discrete list gets one vote, weighted equally.
A movie must have 40 or more rated reviews to be considered
The adjusted score comes from a weighted formula (Bayesian) that we use that accounts for variation in the number of reviews per movie
Black Panther has a 97% RT Score
Wizard of Oz has a 98% RT score
Your turn

What this list actually means is that the RT formula for determining movie goodness has declared Black Panther to be the best Sci Fi movie of all time.
The other kid is right about RT scoring, but not about this list.
They use a formula to account for review disparity, and only use reviews that rate the movie.
That is why some movies with higher RT scores are lower on the list. Bride of Frankenstein has 100% RT score, but is 15th on the list.
If thy were going by RT score, Bride and Toy Story would be 1 & 2

So movies get extra credit for having lots of explosions?

7 of the 10 highest rated sci fi movies ever have come in the last 2 years. What joke critics have become
I believe we are seeing a strong herd effect in play. It's a statistical phenomenon.
In the past critucs gave their reviews without knowing exactly how other the other critics were doing so. In the internet era it's very easy to see what the critical consensus is in seconds. Critics are letting knowledge of what others are doing influence what they do.
Definitely a part of it, along with bought and paid for shill reviews becoming far more common and critics increasing feeling to let the movies perceived politics be a strong factor.

ET is the only one in the top 10 that belongs in the top 10. Wizard of Oz has a strong case.

9. The Shape of Water (2017)
It's basically splash, but with a reverse mermaid (or really, just the dude from Hellboy) a creepy pseudo-latin chick and some Nazis or Commies or whatever.
I haven't even seen the end. I just felt too ridiculous watching it.

That, and it’s how RT’s shitty critics score works.
Critics don’t give a 0-10 score, they give a view or not view recommendation. A 7/10 movie could end up with a RT 50% because half the reviewing critics aren’t sci-fi fans, and a RT 90% could have an audience score of 3/10 because the audience was bored to tears by a cinematic masterpiece

I stand corrected.

So the average rating that is shown for each movie isn’t just from the reviewers that rate the movie? Black Panther having an 8.2/10 and Oz a 9.4/10?
It seems like Black Panther and other more recent movies are benefiting from having more reviews

A refreshing level of honesty.
So thanks.

Those threads alone should be ranked on their list of top comedies

Yea, I would like to know what critics are on their “discrete list” that they use for the ratings. Because they clearly show us the average rating out of 10 based on all of the critics. Black Panther has a 97% and Oz a 98%, extremely close, but the avg rating out of 10 for Oz is over a whole point difference, yet somehow their “formula” proves otherwise
And it’s not like Wizard of Oz only has 35 reviews, it’s got over 100

The fact that the consensus #1 sci fi film according to virtually everyone who knows something about film, Kubrick’s 2001, is not on the list, is criminal
