I am stunned I haven't seen a Lord of War mention yet.

Never got much publicity, but I love that movie.

It also has one of my favorite scenes in any movie.

Like the cast who hated Season 4?

Season 5 & 6 were funnier than the Gas Leak Year, when the writing and acting fell flat. The only positive of Season 4 was the original cast still in tact.

but back on topic

Parroting that characterization is a sign of having one’s head up Dan Harmon’s deranged and ultimately tedious, unfunny arse, which was on full display in seasons 5 and 6. I don’t know which was worse, having Abed eat Jeff and fart him out while giggling like a 2 y/o or the cringe-inducing Cage antics. And sorry to say, neither one represented the nadir (pun intended) of those two miserable seasons.

Cage is incredible. Just chooses paychecks over quality. I think his personal finance situation is a disaster.

I’ve always thought Cage is a fine actor. Some of his movies aren’t good but it’s not his acting skill that sinks them.

correct on all points. the guy does have talent.

This. I think my favorite thing about Cage is that he is one of the few actors to truly leave everything out there. He takes hold of every role and just runs with it full speed. I'd call him fearless, or at least, unphased. The guy doesn't really care about what people think about him, critics or fans, so he gives 150% every time. I love that about him.

Honestly, I'll watch any film with Nicholas Cage for that reason alone.

Drive Angry? Season of the Witch? It's movies like that that he makes work completely on his own. Few actors can do that. (I'm not saying those are high quality films, but whatever they do get is because Cage just runs with the whole thing on his own.)

To call Harmon unfunny is to call the show unfunny, or Rick and Morty unfunny.

5 & 6 weren't perfect, but 4 fell flatter than The Chevy Chase Show.

I love Knowing...and that movie is so fricking ridiculous.

Just because of Cage...hell, I even loved his other ridiculous supernatural movie...Pay the Ghost.

A tangent to consider - imagine Nicolas Cage as Clarence Worley in True Romance instead of Christian Slater. Slater did a really good job in it, but I always think Cage when I watch it.

If he had never made another movie after Valley Girl, his legacy would be secure.

He's certainly in that vein of actors that you can't help but like their performance even if you don't want to at first. IMO.

Was 8mm mentioned? Because, damn, he was ridiculously good in that one.

I was hoping no one would post a reminder of that ugly spectacle. Community Seasons 5 and 6 sucked balls.

5 was great. arse Crack Bandit, Meow Meow Beanz, Hot Lava, Pierce's Will, D&D, etc. 4 just wasn't good.

At best, all of that fell horribly flat. "Meow Meow Beanz" could well be the worst episode of Community ever, but then, I can't be sure, because I only watched seasons 5 & 6 once.

Pierce's Will, D&D,

There were certainly occasional worthwhile moments, like Pierce's bequeathments, Jeff's observation that "Fat Neil is still there in the background, doing this and that," but such minor moments manage to stand out because they were so few and far between.

That's a common opinion, and it's wrong. It's largely held by people who for whatever reasons are bigger fans of Harmon (excuse me, "Dan") than the show.

Not one episode of Season 4 was better than any episode of Season 5. The closest was probably the Sophie B. Hawkins episode.

Incredibly underrated movie.

Face/Off is one of my favorites from him though for some reason. Its a little cheesy but got damn, solid action flick.
