He really was the single funniest man alive. I am legitimately depressed today that the man who personified happiness and kindness killed himself. Aside from immediate friends and family, I find it hard to believe I could be this depressed about any other celebrity offing themselves.

I though it was so unfair john candy died with his last movie being so fricking shitty...now I'm reflecting on the past 10 years and Robin Williams takes the cake

man of the year might be the single worst movie I've ever seen.

"I don't want to live in a world where Robin Williams hangs himself with a belt."

Most depressing thing I've read so far.

but I understand, I can't help but think, if a guy with the genius to turn the sh*t of this world into comedy at the rate he did, can't make it, how can any of us?

Has there ever been a posthumous lifetime achievement award from the Academy? If it's possible, I'd say his family should without question be given it for Robin's achievements.

All I know is Shepard Smith made me disgusted with his "coward" comment last night.

I'm sure they will give him some sort of St. Jude award.

A good article from Cracked on why funny people often kill themselves: LINK

yea the 'we're funny, we're all tortured geniuses' is kinda what I see too, I just don't think that many comedians are as tortured as they want to believe, other than from the failure of not really being funny.

I think we can safely exclude Robin from this group.

I've dealt with depression since childhood and was on anti-depressants at 13. The best way I can describe it is that there is a knife perpetually stuck in your heart and someone is slowly twisting it, even when you can't feel it, you know it's there. If it weren't for my daughter, I don't think I would be able to do anything. I've always felt a sense of abject loneliness and hopelessness that I then and now wonder what the point is.

I think with someone like Williams, you fight and battle for so long that enough is enough. I think he was tired and desperate. The saddest thing is that sometimes it's an unwinnable war.

Yeah, I haven't been suicidal, but I have also struggled with depression for much of my life. I was certainly a social outcast in elementary school, but junior high I figured out how to be funny and entertaining, and got popular fairly quickly. I basically just adopted a wildly exaggerated version of my true self, and people like being around me due to that persona.

I've known for years that Robin Williams was very depressed, since he does the exact same thing I do, but to an even higher degree. Hell, I may have picked it up subconsciously from watching all of his movies and interviews growing up. I'm not all that depressed now, but I do still feel the need to keep up my mostly exaggerated persona. That Cracked article really spoke to me, and Robin Williams killing himself certainly sent me a message.
