Every time this movie comes on I have to watch it. Could be a tad slow, but I think it's great. One of the more underrated mob movies out there. Crazy good cast too.

Captures the 20/30 time period really well.
Wish they would do a Meyer lansky bio pic

Has a great cast, but I don't really care for the movie. It just seems, I don't know, try-hard I guess.

They did one already. Made for TV in 1999. Richard Dreyfuss.
They should make one for the silver screen tho. They made one about Lucky Luciano and Meyer Lansky, starring Christian Slater, it was god awful.

Great movie. The score really enhances it.

Very good movie, but I struggle a bit with Tom Hanks in this role.

Really top notch score and cinematography, although Mendes' shot compositions, going back to American Beauty, can be a little too perfect in an attempt to evoke seminal modern paintings (Edward Hopper, Andrew Wyeth). Nevertheless, I believe this is the last picture shot by Conrad Hall before his death in 2003. What a master.
Not sure this is a great film throughout. Some narrative stasis In the middle. And I'm not sure the casting is spot-on: I found the inclusion of Tom Hanks, Jude Law, and Paul Newman to be a huge distraction. That said, profound performance by child actor Tyler Hoechlin and some great bursts of cinematic violence. Daniel Craig kills it as as unhinged baddie.
Voiceover narration framing device at the beginning/end of movie is pretty sloppy.
Raw midwestern landscape in dead of winter is beautifully captured.
Kind of laughable when 20 gangsters get gatted in the middle of the street and Paul Newman is tanding in the middle of it all, yet he doesn't move an inch, doesn't even turn around, cuz he knows who the triggerman is! Ridic.

The scene in the rain is one of the GOATs IMO.

Great movie. The graphic novel is also legit and worth reading. The series is based loosely on Lone Wolf and Cub, which is just fricking awesome. I highly recommend it.

Really good movie.
Fun fact: the kid actor played baseball for UC Irvine and was the last out at the old Alex Box.

That is a pretty cool fun fact actually.

The kid was a little bitch for not shooting the hitman.
