Sums it up. It makes me feel better that if they lights went out I'd still have access to a gym, a Gap, and a hairstylist.

I watched up until they found the working train and gave up. How far behind am I?

It's at least more realistic than the following.

I wonder in this world how a steam powered train can work but a steam powered power plant can't?

the steam motor can work, but for some reason electricity no longer works or can be generated. A steam powered plant still generates electricity the same way as any other power plant. All plants must spin turbines or generators.

I gave up on this show about 6 episodes in.

Nobody has thought of putting a crank start on a diesel engine yet? Or how to make bullets that go into something besides a musket without electricity?

Could a Model T work in this world? They have a crank start and can run off 100% ethanol.

Or just push it down a hill and pop the clutch.

no it still needs electricity to generate a spark.

THOUGH A diesel engine does not.

A diesel engine should be able to work. Though they are hard to start. So if you had one and push started it every time then it would work. A diesel needs a lot of battery power to start (some are 24v systems) but almost none to run.

An early diesel would work fine even in an EMP.

Most diesel pick ups have two batteries in them, a large diesel truck usually carries 4. A 60s Mercedes diesel might do the trick though.

Though the David Gilmour looking chick was interesting to look at, I bailed on this show after the first couple of episodes. Surprised it was renewed when Alcatraz and The Event were not. Did they ever explain how "electricity doesn't work" so a non-retard can understand it?
