Second watch, tie between Cam and Phil. . .never realized how much they carried the show on their backs.

How were the later seasons compared to the first 4?

Phil and Cam pick up immensely in the latter seasons

Hilarious during the first few years but the children all grew up to be terrible actors and it got really preachy/not funny at the end.

The early seasons of MF are legit laugh-out-loud hilarious. The humor is so subtle at times and it's just great. And the kids are more background, which is a plus. The latter seasons just grinded on me with how bad some of the actors/characters were...

Manny is the absolute worst, both from an actor and a character standpoint. And the show suffered when he got more and more screen time. Lily was likely the worst actor on the show, but I hated her slightly less than Manny. Luke was also very bad. Mitchell was a good actor, but my God his character was so over the top shitty that it was noticeable. Gloria was also grating, but that was on purpose and at some point Sophia Vergara just decided to ramp the accent/annoyingness up to 11 and roll with it...but she was nice to look at so she gets a pass.

The show was carried by Phil, Claire, Jay, and Cam IMO. They were by far the best characters. And to a lesser degree Haley and Alex. Luke was a positive for the show in its early seasons and a negative in the later seasons.

I don't remember when I checked out of the show, but I think it was around S7 or S8 or so...maybe even 9. It just got to be a chore to watch it and I didn't enjoy it as much anymore.

I remember being shocked one time when I saw it was still on and it was season 11. I had no idea it was still going and was still successful. But man, those early seasons really were VERY good.

Yep. The first 3-4 seasons were excellent. It was my favorite show for a while. But jeez, the kid actors got worse and worse as they got older. Luke was actually pretty good in the first couple seasons, but terrible later. Manny always sucked. I stopped watching somewhere around seasons 5-6 I think. If I remember correctly, I thought they made Phil into a bit of a different character than the earlier seasons. Jay and Cam were the only good things left about the show and that just wasn't enough.
