So my son and I just finished Rebels and I've avoided The Clone Wars but it seems inevitable now. I googled last night to figure out where the animated movie fell in the series timeline and discovered that there is an approved Lucasfilm order to watch the series.

Has anyone watched it in this order and is it better than watching it in the order it aired?

Watch Order from the sub Reddit

Not really. It’s mostly the same as the order it aired in. Also you don’t have the watch the movie. A lot of the episodes, especially in the first few seasons are standalone and skippable.

Why? Rebels comes after CW. Watching the CW makes some of the interactions in Rebels more meaningful. CW in the first season can be a bit rough (like I said you can skip a lot of that though), but it’s best episodes are some of the best things in the Star Wars franchise IMO. The fight / battle scenes and character development are pretty great.

Why?

I think I hate the prequels so much I wanted nothing to do with the clone wars. Also, anytime I hear one of the battle droids voices I get ptsd from watching the prequels.

I also kinda think SW tells better stories in the SW world than connecting everything together to Anakin or Luke.

The Clone Wars will probably give you more of the type of Anakin Skywalker you would have wanted from the Prequels. That said, The Clone Wars isn't just all about Anakin, there are a lot of stories about other characters.

As for order, I watched the movie first and then just went in the order they are in on Disney+. There are a few that are sort of out of order, but it wasn't bad enough for me to feel lost.

You’ll like Clone Wars Anakin a lot more compared to emo, teen angst prequel Anakin. But the CW doesn’t solely focus on him. You get to plenty of others like clones, other Jedi, Ashoka, and a lot more. It’s 10x better then the prequels. Especially in regards to expanding the Star Wars lore and world building.

I liked the Clone Wars series better than Rebels.

The Clone Wars animated movie is when Ahsoka makes her first appearance and is assigned to be Anakin's padawan, so its the very beginning of the series timeline.

I had a new appreciation for the prequels after watching Clone Wars. It actually made the movies better. I'm not sure how to explain it.

We just recently did Clone Wars and Rebels. We did Clone Wars in the order suggested on starwars.com instead of by air date. It made it flow really well, but sometimes became a chore to make sure you didn't just let the episodes run.

I hadn't really seen any Star Wars shows or movies until we decided to watch the Mandalorian in January. Since then we decided to go back through and watch all the canon stuff in chronological order (except for the cartoon set within the last three movies, that one looked too kiddy).

We still have Return of the Jedi, then we will re-watch Mandalorian, and finish with the last three movies.

I really enjoyed Clone Wars, but we tried to watch so much in such a short time that it all kind of started to run together a bit.

Rebels was really good too.

Sometimes it's better to quit while you're ahead.

We are aware of the pitfalls of continuing.

So skip the last 3 entries in the timeline?

Better minds took the prequels and spun gold out of them, in between the cracks. Clone Wars is far better than Rebels, and it expands on some of the things that I find annoying in the prequels, and makes them better. The droid voices and situations that the OP mentions become a lot more interesting when fleshed out. Plus, you get evil droids (one of my favorite parts) as well as the super commando droids that kind of made an appearance in The Mandalorian.

This is one of the reasons why the sequel trilogy is so utterly bad. It doesn't even give people anything to work with, as it's all just too hackneyed and/or stupid.

Just finished The Clone Wars series last night. The Darth Maul/Ashoka interactions in the last season is some of the best work the SW franchise has ever done.

Also no doubt in my mind had Dave Filoni gotten his hands on Episodes 7-9 he could have saved those as well.

Regardless which order you watch the series, I think once you get to the end, you will have been blown away many times.

I watched it on order that it was on Netflix at the time, and I don't think it felt out of order or disjointed.

All I know is you should watch. Three reasons why:

1. Ahsoka
2. Ahsoka
3. Ahsoka
