Question about LOST from season 3 (some spoilers)
Posted by WG_Dawg on 2/7/13 at 2:25 pm00
I'm currently doing a 3rd run through of the series and am now on season 4. For some reason I got to thinking about this the other day and I can't for the life of me answer it.
In season 3 Ben is trying to convince Locke about something, and tells him about the "magic box" on the island that can contain anything you wish. Locke said he wished for his father. Later on, lo and behold there's "Anthony Cooper" tied up in the flesh. My question is, how was that possible? I know the Others were able to communicate with the world, and via submarine could go to the real world as well. So what did they do, after John said that they just hopped on the sub, found this man, kidnapped him, brought him back on the sub and put him in this box? We know it's not an apparition because later on Sawyer kills him.
I feel like I should know this but for some reason it's escaping me at the moment.

Maybe there is a specific explanation that I forgot, but I was under the impression that they already had him there, and it was just another layer of Ben's manipulation. He knew that Locke would ask for his father, and he always stayed one step ahead.
ETA: beat me to it!

Cuse and Lindelof explained it in the bonus feature on the Season 3 DVD's:
Damon Lindelof: "We can say that the Others are responsible for bringing Cooper to the Island."
Carlton Cuse: "Yes, they staged an auto accident and he was taken into an ambulance, and he was drugged and he woke up, and he was on the Island and … so that was true. They did get him there."

Awesome thanks. I wonder what they would've done if he asked for Helen? Or some running shoes? Or a pizza?

"Man, I bet your dad really liked pizza, John...you sure there's not anything you'd like more than pizza?"
