Hughes went on such an epic run in this era, over a 10 year stretch either writing or directing

Loved them all
Pretty In Pink has always been my favorite!! Just something about it when I was younger I loved everything. The actors, the plot, the music. It remains my favorite all these years later

No Dutch?

And he gave us the greatest moment of the 1990s.

I also really enjoyed "She's Having a Baby" and the Kate Bush track was ABSOLUTE perfection in that scene

LINK

pretty intense scene...and great segue into the Roxy Music track.

ETA didn't realize Hughes sent the scene to Kate Bush first and asked her to come up with a song for it.

WHAT A LEGEND

I can't stand Molly Ringwald. I don't know how she became so popular after being fired from the Facts of Life.

Never understood the big deal with Molly Ringwald.

She wasn't hot. (Which actually worked somewhat in Sixteen Candles)

She was far from hot. I always thought she was homely looking, and on top of that had a resting "who's fart did I just smell?" face.

Never seen it. I have a penis.

Well, same here on both. I've seen segments of the movie, but never sat down and watched it start to finish. I always assumed Duckie was gay, but pretending to like Andie was his cover from being mocked. Which seemed like a lame plot, so I just had zero interest in watching.

This is so out of character for you.

I’ve never seen someone comment so much on shite he’s never watched.

He's just...what world does this guy come from...and he's in high school?

Hughes had cookie-cutter stereotypes in Breakfast Club which was the point but Spader is a caricature but of what?

Steff would’ve been much more at home on the set of Wall Street than Pretty in Pink.

I enjoyed Some Kind of Wonderful more. It was the first time I noticed Elias Kotteas, who went on to much more serious and darker roles, like David Cronenberg’s “Crash” about erotic Car crashes, “Zodiac” and “The Thin Red Line”.

Co-unpopular opinion here, but I do think that Some Kind of Wonderful more successfully hits the emotional notes. And, agreed, Koteas was one of the most memorable things in the movie. His friendship with Stoltz was written nicely. I loved Koteas’ later work in the Atom Egoyan films. Very underrated actor.

comment so much

What, other than admitting I didn't see this movie, did I comment on?

"So much"? Really?

I said ONE thing, that because I didn't see it and acknowledged I was clueless on the plot. Yet even that simple, honest remark seemed to trigger you.

Good grief.

I mean, look at Duckie. You telling me it's soooo much a stretch to think he's gay just from trailers or short clips?

Directed -

Sixteen Candles
The Breakfast Club
Weird Science
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
She's Having a Baby
Uncle Buck

Wrote the films ...

National Lampoon's Vacation
Mr. Mom
*Pretty in Pink
The Great Outdoors
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Home Alone
*Dutch
Beethoven.

*movies I did NOT see. Yeah, it's soooo like me to not see a film. GFY

The real question is, did you watch them or did someone on YouTube watch them and tell you about it?

I always wonder why Hughes pivoted from the brat pack to John Candy/Steve Martin. I like all of his movies I was just curious how that happened? Was it because the brat pack actors got too old? It was an interesting transition in Hughes career.

No question about that. Right up there with Valley Girl (1983)

Valley Girl as good as any John Hughes movie and better than most. And I like John Hughes a lot.
