I think she is without a doubt going to be a powerful Jedi, not another Han Solo.

R2 doesn't wake up until she comes around. The scene we see when she touches the lightsaber of Luke touching R2 isn't there for just shits and giggles. Luke knows who she is. He wants her, and only her, to find him.
Also, when Ren is trying to take her memories he says he sees an ocean and an island. Seems like she's has seen where Luke is in her dreams. Makes me think Luke is the one giving her those visions.
Back to R2, Luke was telling R2 in that scene to only show the map to him to Rey, which is why R2 wakes up when she comes around.

snoke feels Rey's awakening. Pretty sure Luke feels it as well.

Luke has foreseen everything.he went into hiding and has been waiting for Rey to realize who she is.he's been on that island with obi-wan and Yoda trying to figure out how they are going to "kill" Darth plageus.

I think han and Leia both know who Rey is. Twice in the movie han tells someone about Rey, but we don't hear the conversation. Why does Leia tell her "may the force be with you"? She knows more about her than we think.

I think Ren will kill Rey eventually, Luke and Leia will get Ren to come back and they will "kill" the immortal Snoke together.

Luke is and always will be the most powerful Jedi.

R2 wakes up after a combo of BB-8 coming up and asking if he has the rest of the map and Rey appearing at the base. He not only knows he can complete the map, but also knows the person who is supposed to use it is there.

It makes me wonder if Kylo has the name wrong in the annals of history. I think it's going to turn out that the Order he's trying to resurrect is actually the Knights of Re(va)n.

I think Kylo willingly turned to the dark side in order to kill Snoke.

hmmm... some more fuel for my suggestion that Rey will follow Han Solo's path, and not the Jedi path. Rey is very excited about meeting Solo and learning the junk ship she stole is the Millennium Falcon. This set of quotes really make me wonder

This is listed in Quotes on IMDB:
Rey: There are stories about what happened.
Han Solo: It's true. All of it. The Dark Side, the Jedi. They're real.
Rey: This is the Millennium Falcon! You're Han Solo!
Han Solo: I used to be.

Finn: Han Solo, the Rebellion General?
Rey: No! The smuggler!

In the movie, she stares at him like she's just met God. While the popular assumption is that she is geeked about meeting Friend of Luke the Jedi (and her assumed trainer and spiritual precursor), it's VERY interesting that she knows of, and seems to prefer, Solo's smuggler past more than his Rebellion activity.

And the whole Lightsaber bit- she doesn't want it, she tries to reject it, until she needs to use it to defend herself. And then as she meets Luke, she holds it out and offers it to him.

I suggest this theory:
She might be destined to be the next Luke, but that isn't her plan. She wants to be the next Han Solo, instead. She didn't go find Luke to be trained as a Jedi (wouldn't she go alone?), she is going there, with Chewie, in the Millennium Falcon, to find Luke, give him his damn lightsaber back, and bring him back into the mix. (A task probably only Han Solo could have accomplished, so she's doing this for Han)
-

She has a lot of work to do before she's competent as another rogue along the lines of Solo (hell, she has trouble taking a blaster off safety), but that's ok... that's going to be part of her journey. We have Han telling her about Luke and the Jedi in Ep 7, we'll have Luke telling her about Han and his courage and resourcefulness (and his skills as a pilot and with a gun) in Ep 8. And all the while, Luke will be subtly molding her within the Force... but in an entirely different way.
He didn't learn as a kid in some academy, it makes sense that he failed to run one later on. He learned at Rey's age in a fricking swamp, doing bullshite that made no sense until Yoda beat him with a stick and told him what he was doing. He would learn from that, and see that this chick is a Force sensitive, but doesn't want to be "trained" as a "Jedi" at all, she wants to go impart some retribution on the First Order and find her past. He can tag along and do his thing, while at the same time imparting the knowledge she needs. And when it's time for him, too, to go meet his end (maybe Poe is hurt and they need an ace X Wing pilot to do some crazy suicidal mission- something he'd be perfect at), and she says "wait, don't go. You can't. You still need to train me", he can say he already has, she is ready, and then go climb into the cockpit.

Man, I have to say that as an old guy, it's great to have Star Wars back. It was a lot of fun, and it's cool to have these characters back one last ride. Makes me almost feel like a kid again

adding this in
quote:

Luke will refuse, of course, as he's given up on the Jedi and all that. He created Ren, he will not make Rey into another failure, he will want to stay away because everytime he does something, it comes out worse.
Rey will get pissed and tell him he's being a coward and a disappointment. That they need his help, and that his old friend Han Solo was among those who wanted him to come back. And for what- Han is dead now, got himself killed because he was trying to do that, and killed by his own son, all because Luke screwed his training up.

And that will strike a nerve in Luke. He will agree to come, but not as some Jedi mentor, but to avenge his friend and to console his sister.

Man, so much good stuff in this thread. You pretty much hit the nail on the head of what I'm thinking too.

Another good piece of theorizing here from TeddyPadillac:

quote:

Luke has foreseen everything.he went into hiding and has been waiting for Rey to realize who she is.he's been on that island with obi-wan and Yoda trying to figure out how they are going to "kill" Darth plageus. This is also spot on imo.

I've avoided reading all spoilers and even reviews until I could see it, but now that I'm catching up on these threads, I keep seeing comments like this from the first page:

quote:

The obvious one is that Rey is Luke's daughter

All the talk about the clear similarities to ANH and the connection between Rey and Han, has anyone mentioned the much more obvious possibility that Rey is actually HAN'S daughter, and Kylo's twin??

It makes much more sense than Rey being a love child of Luke and some strange that we never meet or even hear about. Leia and Han, with input from Luke, do just as her parents did, and split the children up at birth (or later as alluded to in the visions, perhaps once they realized that Ren was being drawn toward the Dark Side and they wanted to limit his ability to corrupt his sister as well).

I know it might be TOO obvious to take the twin path again, but they could certainly make it fresh and the idea of siblings facing off instead of father and son like in 4-6 is actually pretty badass imo.

Again, it seems obvious, so not trying to act like I cracked some riddle, but all the threads I've made it through mention the Luke/Rey lineage, but maybe I just missed it.

Any thoughts on the Rey Solo theory?? TIA and MTFBWYall

R2 doesn't wake up until she comes around

Rey's presence is irrelevant. I can find the interview if necessary, but JJ said in an interview that the first time BB-8 bumps into R2, that BB tells R2 that they have a map to where Luke is, but they don't what part of the galaxy he is in. So apparently in one of the OT movies, R2 stays plugged into an Empire database and downloads all of their archives - literally every single record/file they have. After hearing about the map piece, R2D2 searches through his files and finds the larger part of the map that the Empire had. And then wakes up when we saw him do so.

That's pretty much the jist of what JJ had to say about it all and why R2 didn't immediately wake up to help - he was already helping and we just weren't aware of it.

So R2 has been stuck in a "searching" lag for, how long, again? That's almost like the Verizon ad where the download is capped, and Chewie keeps saying hurry up in Wookie.

Not that computers being frozen is unheard of. I bought a used HP laptop that had a "dead" hard drive. I stuck an old Windows 7 disk in the player and it said the Windows installation was corrupted, and gave me a Repair option. I ran that, it rebooted, and sat black (and unresponsive) for a day while plugged in, with just a spinning x on a text screen. As I was downloading a Linux iso to try that out on day 2, I heard the laptop finally load windows (Vista 64 bit), and it's been solid ever since.

I believe you misread that wrong or maybe I typed it out wrong, but from the time Luke left R2 wherever until the time we see BB bump into him, he's just laying around in nap mode all depressed. He doesn't start his file search until BB bumps into him. Keep in mind that when Han and BB and Finn show up, they are right back out of the door again going to Starkiller Base.
