You got to give the guys props that he's honest and respectful to his fanbase. The Hobbit trilogy was a disappointment, but I think it's more the studio's and producer's fault than Jackson's. Any scene he knew he could not frick up on he pulled off masterfully. You could really tell he put a lot of care into these scenes. It's just clear from the start which scenes Jackson gave a shite about and which he just said "frick it, I don't have time for these subtle nuances. Let's just run with it".
This is in complete contrast to Lucas, who seems to have nothing but contempt for his fans and changes things just to piss them off. There are marvelous parts of the Hobbit, while I think the only thing the prequels did well were the Opera House and Podrace scenes. Really got to respect Jackson for saying right as the DVD is released that the Hobbit films were a disappointment and actually explains why they are disappointing.

No it wasn't.

It was. I don't think it was bad, but there's far too much worthless fluff in it. The edited down version to 3 and a half hours is brilliant, so everything I actually wanted in the film was great, but there's so much shite mixed in with it. Much better than the Star Wars prequels, but isn't close to the Lord of the Rings.

It showed. The first film was okay, except for the Goblin City. I passed on the rest.

You don't think LotR has worthless fluff? Two Towers is basically a movie full of worthless fluff.

You missed out on some awesome parts of the second one. Smaug was an absolute masterpiece.

The Extended Edition, for sure, but I think save for the Warg battle and its aftermath, most of it was very much built on and expanded. The fluff in Lord of the Rings is good. The fluff like Mountains fighting and spending 20 minutes with Legolas and Evangeline Lilly, not so much.

I enjoyed them, but they are not even in the same stratosphere as LOTR trilogy. I have seen them all once and the last one i didnt even see in the theater.
There are definitely great parts (Gollum's cave, Smaug) but for the most part its cartoonish fluff
LOTR on the other hand, I have seen that at least 10 times

I would love to spend 20 minutes with Evangeline Lilly.
The only question is what to do with the other 19 minutes.

It was not a disappointment, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies kinda was, but other than that they are pretty good.

Disappointment is a fairly relative term, but the fact that none of the films are even in the 80s on the T-Meter seems that most agree it is.

I enjoyed the trilogy, probably liked the middle movie the best with Smaug and all. I was kind of disappointed with the first movie. I found that there was a lot of silly stuff in it (and yes I realize it was a lighter story then LOTR). The trolls were more goofy then scary and the goblin scene was pretty rough. All in all not as good as LOTR but still some pretty solid movies IMO.

I agree they are but Jackson set the bar extremely high with LOTR. The Hobbit just doesn't measure up.
