I put it on my Netflix list. I hope it's decent.

Watching it now. Over an hour into the movie. Some observations without spoilers.
-the acting of Chris Pine is about as inspired as an unshaven scrotum without testicles.
-the story is very choppy and very incoherent.
-production value is shite.
-I watched an episode of iCarly with my 7 yo daughter this morning before school. It had a greater Braveheart feel than this steaming pile.

Well, that is discouraging.

That’s two hours of my life I’ll never get back.
Maybe someone will like it, but I’m a huge Braveheart fan and this is complete shite if you try to compare this to that on any level.
Actually as a stand alone without comparison I still think it’s garbage.

Spoiler alert, Chris Pine’s dong.

damn
saw it was getting terrible reviews but was hoping it was a Bright situation where the critics were just being douchebags because it was Netflix and it turned out being pretty good.

Were you really going in expecting it to be Braveheart 2.0?
I wouldn't throw it down that badly, it was alright. Slow as shite for the type of movie it was, though. Let's be honest, this was a movie that was to be distributed by Netflix, so that right there should let someone know what they can expect.
IMO, it would have been better served as being a limited series on Netflix, as much material as there has been on the time period(Vikings, Knightfall, etc). Of course, going in expecting it to be Braveheart is gonna ruin it for anyone watching. BH was definitely made with the intention of being a massive movie at the theaters, and it did so by taking extreme liberties with the material.
Verdict: Meh. Slow, opposite of what Braveheart was as a movie, but great battle scenes and realism. I'll wait for GoT S8.

Well frick. That’s discouraging

I just watched it, and enjoyed it well enough. No the story isn’t Braveheart. But the cinematography and scenery alone makes the movie worth checking out. It is fricking gorgeously filmed.

I actually really enjoyed it. Chris Pine was very forgettable as Robert but as mentioned the cinematography and scenery is great. My main complaint is the lack of historical context. The plot requires you to have seen Braveheart- if you haven’t then you will be lost.

This thread inspired me to watch it tonight, and I enjoyed it. Nothing wrong with this movie, except Pine could’ve conveyed some charisma. Maybe it would’ve been better as a miniseries. Not a memorable cultural event like Braveheart but still good.

Enjoyed it, pretty enjoyable. The Braveheat connection is going to lead to criticism.

Yeah it’s only natural to compare it to Braveheart but it’s not a sequel and it’s not fair to compare the two. I don’t know if this movie is historically accurate, but yet seems like it would be, at least more so that Braveheart where Wallace fricked the English princess and Longshanks died at the same time as Wallace.

quote:yeah my thoughts exactly. I thought pine did a really good job at the beginning of playing the part of someone who is reluctantly surrendering for what he thinks is the good of his people, but as it developed I thought he couldve shown a little more fire and charisma as you said. I thought the love interest could have developed a bit more or at least pine couldve done a better job at acting as if hed fallen in love. It seemed like the girl was head over heels for him but he gave off a meh vibe with her.
