Black Panther was a fine superhero movie. It should not be considered the best movie from last year. If the fact it involved a majority black cast is the sole reason to make it win best picture, then I say to the academy “grow up”. Black panther winning awards isn’t going to make the plight of the black community any easier. If it makes the elite of Hollywood feel better so they can all pat each others privileged backs for being so progressive, then so be it. Just remember to acknowledge at the end of the day, you are a part of the problem.

100% chance it gets nominated for best picture and several other awards. This has been a weak year. Most of the other contenders this year are indies that no one cares about. With Oscar ratings on the decline they have to nominate a popular movie.

It's racist if it doesn't win.

Not sure where that happens in A Star is Born or The Favourite.

steve mcqueen is a genuine OG legit AF artist. 12 years was deserving. frick barry jenkins and moonlight. it was a fine movie, i'm even good with it being nominated since they nominate like 20 movies now, but La La Land outclassed it in every possible category except one...i'll let others guess what that was.

i can't even get started on black panther. lol. it won't win best picture, but it will win an oscar, because the academy basically created a category just for it..."outstanding popular film." there is zero chance it doesn't win that.

They pushed that award back after all the backlash so it won't be around this year, maybe next year though. They will still nominate Black Panther to make a point that it was a genuinely good movie and not something that needed its own special award.

Worst CGI of all the Marvel movies.

Pretty sure that doesn't happen in Blackkklansman either. Since the KKK deserves nothing but ridicule.

Not anymore. The Academy is revisiting this decision since basically everyone thought it was dumb.

It’s not gonna win. No chance

Anyone who pays just a little attention to the Oscars know that the Academy takes itself too seriously to pick a comic book movie as best pic. Even if a bunch of them come out and make public statements about how “great” the movie was, they’re not gonna pick it when they fill out their ballot

It seems like every year their is a few articles on some race baiting or whatever type movie is gonna win best picture and everyone gets pissed, then none of them actually win

Don’t know why all this talk is even happening there is no chance it will be nominated. It was bad for a superhero movie and that is already a very low bar.

Black Panther sucked arse.

I appreciated the story and how it tied into the Avengers, but as a standalone film it was completely forgettable.

I think you're mistaken, it's almost a near certainty it gets a nomination. The question is will it win.

I really hope this happens. The Oscars have been a joke for years, and this would be the final nail in the coffin. It’s like when Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize before he was even President. The award is now irrelevant.

That would be pretty pathetic if that was the first Superhero movie to win Best Picture.

There was nothing new about it, avant garde, unique, technically amazing...or superb filmmaking.

It was just another CGI-fest superhero movie with ridiculous fight scenes.

Why does it stand out? You watch Thor and you watch Black Panther or Wonder Woman, what's the difference?

Two black filmmakers — Steve McQueen ('12 Years a Slave') and Barry Jenkins ('Moonlight') — have won the Academy's top prize recently, and Ryan Coogler's Marvel superhero movie could make that three .

So I guess that whole thing with the Oscars being racist for not nominating a black film is forgiven?

There are several reasons it will not win and probably will not even be nominated.

1. It made a butt ton of money (They are jealous of movies that make a lot of money)

2. A lot of people saw it (They believe if the general public likes a movie, it cannot be good)

3. It's a superhero/action movie (It can't be a good movie if it has a lot of special effects)

Don't forget that these are the idiots that did not vote Star Wars/New Hope as Best Picture even though it changed the movie industry.
