In delayed fast national results just released by Nielsen, the 93rd Academy Awards were watched by a mere 9.85 million, with a dismal rating of 1.9 among the 18-49 demographic.

That is an all-time low for Hollywood’s biggest night – by a huge margin.

In fact, it is a drop of over 58% in terms of audience from what the previous low of the 2020 Oscars snared on February 9 last year. In terms of the key demo, the 2021 Oscars is down a crushing 64.2% in the earlier ratings from the 2020 Oscars.

I sure as hell didn't watch that shite-show as I knew what it was going to be about.

I used to be a pretty big Oscar guy, used to go out of my way to make sure that I watched most of the Best Picture nominees.

I had zero clue the Oscars were even on last night.

And they still don't get it. Hollywood killed itself.

Here they are going back to 1991. I could be way off base but I think the Oscars have had the following problems over the last few years that have contributed to their massive ratings slide:

1) Too political
2) Too few "mainstream" films nominated
3) Too focused on diversity

1991 - 42.7M
1992 - 44.4M
1993 - 45.7M
1994 - 46.3M
1995 - 48.3M
1996 - 44.8M
1997 - 40.1M
1998 - 57.3M (Titanic effect)
1999 - 45.5M
2000 - 46.5M
2001 - 42.9M
2002 - 41.8M
2003 - 33.0M (Iraq War)
2004 - 43.6M
2005 - 42.1M
2006 - 38.9M
2007 - 39.9M
2008 - 31.7M
2009 - 36.9M
2010 - 41.6M
2011 - 37.9M
2012 - 39.5M
2013 - 40.4M
2014 - 43.7M
2015 - 37.2M
2016 - 34.4M
2017 - 33.0M
2018 - 26.5M
2019 - 29.6M
2020 - 23.6M
2021 - 9.8M

I was shocked there was a even a thread about the Oscars on this board last night.

I guess some just have a hard time giving it up.

Hollywood is full of terrible people that make mostly terrible movies. And then they have the nerve to preach their bullshite at people dealing with life in the real world and not living in LA fantasy land. People are tired of them.

Yeah, ratings surely weren't down because there were like 35 films released in 2020.

they shouldn't have been awarded with lack of movies released due to COVID
plus you had all those studios releasing everything on streaming instead
Malcolm and Marie was thrown together to win an award, nothing more
