Ep. 3:1 Electric Sheep

Solid episode. Addresses the aftermath of the Kalon War in an interesting way.

"In Memory Of Norm MacDonald" at the open.

The new ensign looked familiar. Then figured out she was the daughter on Tyrant

Tyrant was not a great show but she is finer than froghair

This episode was solid

How does a guy who writes crappy family guy jokes also produce the best sci-fi on TV. That was a classic TNG episode and it was super solid. That was so much better than the latest Star Trek trash they keep putting out. Seriously, that was as good as the writing and stories in the high years of TNG and DS9. Woke writers need to take a lesson from the Orville, this is how you write social commentary without being offensive to 1/2 your audience.

Cannot wait for the next episode.

It's the best Trek out there.

Sci-Fi has always delt with social commentary, but writers in Hollywood today do not understand how to present to an audience. They sacrifice story for message; Instead of writing a good story to get a message across. Orville does a good job of entertainment first, message second. And they do not tear down or make fun of Mercer to make the other characters stronger. He is still a strong, intelligent captain while all the others are strong characters as well.

Yeah, I watched last night and they seem to be back on track pretty well. I had noticed on the last episode of season 2 that even though the storyline was pretty good it seemed like they were kind of rushing through it like they were short of time or something but this season 3 episode was pretty strong.

As far as the woke stuff goes, I think they are doing pretty good in that while they are definitely checking some of the boxes they are managing to do so without wagging their finger in your face too much. I haven't felt particularly put off by it myself anyway.

One thing that did weird me out a little didn't really have much to do with wokeness but the doctor and the robot dude storyline was a bit strange to me. Don't want to give any spoilers but folks who watch know what I'm talking about, I really wasn't too keen on that but it's not enough to make me stop watching it, I just found it kind of weird

This. Most writers in hollywood do not understand how to present complicated issues in a way that doesn't feel like it's calling its audience out for being bad people. I think it has to do with writers having open contempt for their audience.

The Orville understands why TNG worked so well: the difficult issues are presented as difficult. They weren't shown as cut and dry with one side being always evil and hateful. They showed good people struggling with tough choices.

Good scifi respects its audience, and recognizes that most big issues are that way because they are not binary. Current politics tend to be "support the current thing or you are an evil hater". Tough problems go without quick fixes because there's good reasons for both sides to exist that have nothing to do with bigotry.

At yalls' suggestion, and as a kid the 80s and 90s who enjoyed TNG, I paid for both of the first two seasons and watched them over a few weeks.

Some corny humor and a few agonizing "Soap Trek" episodes, and a few borderline cringey wokey storylines (though, as stated elsewhere, most are shout-outs to similiar storylines from the old star treks, and frankly handled them better than the old shows), but overall an excellent show that clearly knows what brought fans to the genre.

Everybody drinks a lot. The future looks bright

I will wait till the season ends and get a free trial at hulu, then watch them all. Is there an easier way without having to get hulu?

They are the Orville Borg pretty much. Still it is pretty good so far, I will say the acting could be better, their hiatus shows, the only person acting that seem natural and not very stiff is the doctors and commander grayson. Brotus havent said enough so can't really judge but yeah other than that, this week is Orville Borg.

I don't get how they can still go exploring like this instead gearing up for the Kaylon war effort.

Got distracted on S2 E14 and lost track of the plot.

Totally ruined the series for me.

Episode 3:3

Another solid episode. A very non-subtle reference to TNG

Ep. 3:4 Gently Falling Rain

Damn. A great episode. Can't really describe it without spoiling, but the Krill home world is amazing.

Ok so , I can see what they were trying here but...I wish the show has consistency. Rules to the Universe should be set and then played within.

It makes no sense for a fleet of union ships that size to make it to the Krill homeward unchallenged.

Krill space is suppose to be big, I would think they have a lot of ships to guard their borders yet the Union Fleet made it inside unchallenge.

However, what is worse is that the Krill homeworld was completely expose to attack and no a single ship challenge the Union Fleet as they were in shooting distance of the Krill homeworld!

What the heck?

On Season 2, the Kaylons needed the Orville to escort them through Union defensive lines with their massive fleet yet the Krill had zero defensive line? The Krill as was portrayed in the Orville edges out the Union in terms of ships, numbers, and weaponry.

Then the disengagement. I saw Union ships getting blown up or destroyed.

The Admiral sound an all retreat. If they been in battle for that long, then a lot of ships should have gotten their engines knocked out and the destroyed ship should have a lot of escape pods just floating around.

Did the Union abandon the survivors to Krill mercy?

The show need to be a lot more concrete regarding the rules of space, their fleets and territories.
