Does this movie even qualify for Oscars? I think the entire cast is white, isn't it? Aren't there a bunch of rules now about gays, blacks, trannies and various assortments of the downtrodden who have to be involved in movies now, either in the cast or behind the scenes?
Women count towards the 30% minority counter for the Oscars. And I believe there are some actors on in the cast that are ethnically Jewish, that also counts in the diversity quota.

Finally saw it last night because it arrived on Peacock...with all the hype and anticipation, it was underwhelming.... Maybe the big screen would help.
I saw it last night as well. As you mention,
I think the hype and anticipation certainly played into my perception of the movie.
The technical skill of the filmmaker was obvious and the acting was great. I thought the storytelling was good overall but it drug at times. I won’t say that I was underwhelmed - but more that I wasn’t “wowed” but still found it a good movie.
But in all honesty, I kinda liked “Howlin Mad” Oppenheimer with Paul Newman better.

Get out with that. The Oscars best picture nominations from 10 years ago was:
That presumes the Oscar’s are actually a good indicator of quality films which hasn’t been the case in a long time. Top 10 was probably an overstatement, but I stand by comment. Top Gun Maverick is another good example. Good film. Really good. But part of its draw was that films worth watching on the big screen are exceedingly rare now.

For those that streamed Oppenheimer and was underwhelmed...I have not seen it in a streaming format but did see it in a local theater here. It is a small theater with reclining seats with an amazing sound system. I feel that an amazing sound system that you can feel the bass and have the visceral experience is what made it a great movie. I felt the same about 1917 as well.

Have seen Opp, Wonka, and Barbie. All 3 really good.

Damn I feel bad for this take. Maybe a little brainy for some people.
