It was good to see a little bit of Gus in Bluebonnet's character.

Love, Love, Love this movie. I love how it builds and is all about dialogue and when the action finally starts it does not disappoint. I have no idea why it doesn't get talked about more.

I agree. This one ranked up there with Silverado. I know that there were a couple of good ones in the 20 years between these movies, but none as good as these. Unless I'm forgetting one. To me Silverado is the measuring stick for modern westerns and Open Range is as good.

but one part of the shootout has always bothered me. When the guy gets shot through the wall with a shotgun and flies across the alley like he was hit by a truck was not realistic. The rest of the scene was great.

Per the AMC movie notes thing last night, Costner called that the best stunt he's ever seen in movies, when the dude gets shot and flies back like that.

I remember watching a behind the scenes video where they set up an air compressor of sorts on the other side of the wooden wall and blew the stunt man into the air to the other wall. It looked pretty sweet. Also I remember Costner had appendicitis during filming and had to have surgery.

And this is one of my favorite movies overall, not just westerns

"Cows is one thing, but one man telling another man where he can go in this country's something else. Lawman just sat in that jailhouse sort of sneering... sticks in my craw." - Boss Spearman

Yeah Open Range and Appaloosa are two underrated recent westerns.

I think "Unforgiven" is just as good, if not better.. it seemed to be pretty realistic as well.. Also "Tombstone" is the shite for me as far as westerns go..

Unforgiven was good also. I did forget this one. Tombstone was good but not as good as these.

Unforgiven took awhile to get going. Until Clint started drinking it was still moving slow. Don't get me wrong, it was a good movie but I don't know if it ranks up there with Silverado. IMO.

Tombstone was good. If it wasn't for Kilmer as Holiday then this movie would have been average at best. Kilmer was awsome. The best role I think he ever has had. Me and a friend was watching Open Range recently and was talking about Kilmer in Tombstone. Laughed at Costener's and Quaid's attempt in Wyatt Earp.

BOOM

"Now we'll have our drinks."

I love how that part was shot. From behind and to the side of Costner and the camera shakes from the shock wave from the gun. One of the most realistic looking gunshots Ive seen in a movie.

Costner did a fine job once he grew a mustache.

Nothing was wrong with that. Two diiferent movies. The only thing you enjoyed about Kilmer's role was the witty dialog. Well, that's the only reason to watch Tombstone.

Quaid was good as Doc. Kilmer was Doc. I thought Costners Earp was more believable than Russells though.

I agree with this completely. Costner also played Earp from teenager to old age which is an amazing feat IMO.

No way Quaid was as good as Kilmer. Not even close.

My comment about Costner and Quaid's attempt was as a whole in the movie. Russel wasn't very special in Tombstone. Kilmer carried the movie. Costner did a good job. Usually does. Except maybe in Waterworld. I'm not saying that it was bad. Just not as good as Tombstone.
But, if you are saying that Wyatt Earp was as good as Tombstone then that enforces my point that it wasn't as good as Open Range or Silverado.

It wasn't just witty dialogue. Watch the movie again. He played Doc in a very realistic way. I remember his character. I don't remember Quaid's like that.

The funny thing is that the mythbuster guys have proven that shotguns don't slam a person back. They tend to drop almost straight down.
