It is as a backdrop. I believe they showed the actor playing Manson at the 1:09 mark. At least he looks like Manson.

This is the only trailer I'll watch. Teasers are the best....they give you a little taste but don't really reveal anything. Full trailers show you 3/4 of the movie.
