No, I really care, even though it seems an un-popular notion on this board to have even the slightest hint of ethics and morals (no slight to you personally, just referring to some of the responses I've gotten).

Oh, and this is my 1000th post!

Not that I'm disagreeing, but if this is true, the OT is pretty much Dante's Inferno.

My history teacher showed us Schindler's List in the ninth grade. There were parents who called the school to complain.

Yeah, ours showed us The Passion and Schindler's List. Those 2 are way more brutal and horrifying than Sweeney.

Why don't you watch the movie, and then decide if it's worth getting worked up for? Make an informed decision before you get all charged up Bob Dole.

Yeah, not too smart on my part to post it over there. And to the OT's credit, a number of them said right off it should be on the movie.tv board.

While I don't see anything wrong with anyone that age seeing the movie, it's probably not the most appropriate thing to show in a high school classroom.

But then again, we did watch Kennedy get his head blown off in super slo-mo, close up from two different angles when I was in 9th grade with no parental consent, so it's not that big of a deal imo .

wrong

So I fat-fingered the eight when aiming for the 7. Doesn't really change the overall point, considering we're talking about 14 and 15 year olds, and more importantly a school setting.

I'm not overly protective about what my kids watch, but some parents are. Teachers should respect that.

we watched schindler's list in 10th grade, which is approximately 42.8 times worse than ST

Its certainly not appropriate for a school to show this to kids without prior parental permission.

The teacher shouldn't have shown the movie. Yeah, it's not that bad and I wouldn't mind if my 9th grader watched it. The thing is, it should be the parents decision. The teacher could have picked 100's of movies that would have been acceptable, why she choose a rated R title is strange. Phantom of the Opera, Sound of Music, Chicago, Westside Story, Moulin Rouge! are just a few musicals that would've been more acceptable than Sweeney Todd. I wouldn't be pissed about it, but I would let the teacher and the principal know that her choice to show a rated R movie without any sort of parental consent was inappropriate. 9th grade is 14-15 year olds? They wouldn't have even been able to get into this movie at theaters.

Any rated R movie would likely be a no no for high school kids.

Schlinder's List begs to differ

Our US history teacher got it OK'd by our district for us to watch this movie.

Schindler's List has value in a history course. I can't see what a class is gaining in watching ST. Plus there is a difference in the violence.

I do agree SL is more disturbing, but I would want the school to tell me if they were showing it to my kid.

My parents had no problems with me watching this movie (and they are both teachers) and none of my classmates' parents had any problems everyone in the class watched the film (you had the option to go to the library while it was on if you choose to)

The school should have let the parents know, so there would be a option to go to the library or something like that. I subbed for a class that watch 1984, about a quarter of them left.
