Wendell Pierce is a New Orleans native. Most of us first saw him in the Tom Hanks Shelley Long comedy, The Money Pit:
He stands out from this excellent cast - maybe the best performance on the law enforcement side for the entire run - although close with my boy Freamon. And that's not dogging anybody - that's elevating the Bunk.

He ain't no dummy. It didn't take much to tip him off. Years of skimming has got him sharp.

OP updated with this week's episodes.
I am finally caught up. Here are some general thoughts as I watched the last six episodes.
String has his eye on a lot of things...including Dee.
Love the Omar courtroom scene. It's so awesome. "Hey yo, what up, Bird?"
And I love him calling out Levy too...speaking of that, I keep seeing Levy in commercials and it's weird as hell (he's also in that stupid Hannibal Burress Samsung Pay commercial selling sandwiches).
Dee has a solid philosophy on some shite, but it's gonna get him killed if he keeps it up.
fricking Ziggy. Nick helps him and gets them some bankroll, and of course Zig is lighting hundreds on fire in the bar in front of the other stevedores like an a-hole. Idiot.
So Daniels only cares about promotions now? Dude keeps making sure his path out of the basement isn't fricked up, even at the cost of the case potentially? That sucks. I guess he's playing the game now.
It cracks me up that Avon is wearing gold chains in prison.
Nick's comment to Zig is spot fricking on: "Stay home and watch cartoons." Boom.
Later, Dee. It was a good run. At least now you'll know where Wallace at.
String making moves (Dee) without Avon, but it kinda makes Avon realize that Dee was a pussy and wasn't cut out for this shite.
Avon doesn't want any part of Prop Joe. I get it since he's an east side N word, but still...may be a smart move, even if for the short term. There's only so much you can do from prison, and your turn is suffering with weak arse shite.
Freamon dropping some knowledge on Daniels and gets him to agree to take the bodies. And of fricking course, Marla hates it and wants his "ambition" so she can use it for her political career.
Ziggy: "Why can't they fly away?"
"Because their wings are clipped."
This show is so fricking awesome. That quote right there speaks for a lot of people on this show. The kids in the game, people like Dee and Wallace, the police, etc. Sometimes no matter who you are, your wings are clipped and you can't dig yourself out of your situation.
So sad that stray bullets can kill like that, and I bet that happens way more than I think it does.
Some similarities between Avon and the Greek. Spiros and Stringer both talk like "This is business; he will listen." We shall see though.
String fancies himself a CEO. It's so hilarious how smart he tries to come off in front of the B&B soldiers.
Muthafricking Brother Mouzone coming right up!
I love how far Prez has come. Dude went from being a total jackoff early in S1, and now he's not only good poh-leese, but he's one of the best in the detail when it comes to the thinking side of things and analyzing shite and trying to put things together. He beasted on that evidence board and the case is becoming a lot more clear. That was a cool scene.
Damn, Zig fricked that dude UP. And of course, he wants Landsman to change the affidavit to say that he "begged" for his life. Good to see Zig is still capable of being a prick, even when he's in police custody and freaked out of his mind.
Prez BOOM. I totally forgot he smacks Valchek in the face. That was awesome.
I love how text messaging is some new, radical thing on this show. As awesome as the show is, things like this really date it at times. But that doesn't matter, it's just more funny.
Stringer has to know that Avon is gonna find out about this prop Joe bullshite. How could he not? Even from prison, dude is making moves and shite, so surely it would eventually get to his ear that String made this move. I know he keeps saying that Avon will listen to business, but you gotta tell him ASAP, String.
This Prissy chick with Nick mourning Ziggy...she's the doc from TWD, right?
(ETA: just checked, and it is her)
Brother Mouzone popping Cheese with ratshot.
I love how badass Mouzone is, and how basically everybody is terrified of him. Even when Cheese confronts Prop Joe about doing something, Joe don't want any piece of Brother. Dude is a boss. shite is hilarious.
S2 really is pretty fricking awesome.

Sorry for bailing on this rewatch thread. Got hooked on Oz.
How's the participation been?

Not great.
But there are a decent few of us still around discussing shite.
Time to get back in here. Oz will be there when this is over...and even if you don't want to actually do the rewatch, you can still participate in the discussions.

We hit on it earlier in the thread - Mouzone is an over-the-top character, but not out of place in a literary work, no matter how "gritty" or "realistic" the work tries to be. McNulty is relatively over-the-top, as are other popular characters, particularly Omar.
He's still a favorite of mine on repeated viewings because the actor (Michael Potts) owned the character. Plus, the character maintained an internal code of honor (very similar in ways to Omar and they shared many scenes).
In a note of trivia, Potts is mainly a stage actor, with only minor appearances in film and a few guest appearances on television. Mouzone is a rare example of a recurring role on television. He also originated the role of Mafala Hatimbi (Nabalungi's father)/Johnnie Cochran in The Book of Mormon on Broadway (unfortunately, I didn't get to see the original cast).

crazy how the moms scooped up the kids and had them lie down as if part of a normal routine. The mom who's kid died did not panic till after she found him
bird couldn't hold his liquor for s***
brother mouzone is easily one of the best characters even if he is over the top.
Mcnulty sure didn't seem to be resisting the girls to fiercely
On a site note are Bunny an Rawls of equal rank at this point

I think Bunny is a Major, District Commander.
Rawls is Colonel, head of homicide.

I still need to go back the last couple pages and respond to the discussion now that I am caught up.
And FWIW, it was awesome watching six episodes last week instead of the regular 2&Q of normal weeks.
Also didn't realize until this morning that S2 only has 12 episodes. So this week we wrap up S2 already. It seems like this thing is flying by.
