how much of this is somewhat accurate

All of the stories are accurate according to the Bible among the main events and themes.

For example, David did kill the giant Goliath. However Goliath taunted and challenged the Israelites for over 40 days. When David challenged Goliath, he selected 5 stones from a stream. The movie just showed Goliath challenging Israel once, and David just grabbed a couple of stones from the ground near him.

I am very much a 'show me' analytical type person so religion is tough for me to accept at face value but you are right, I like the historical part of it. maybe they have cliffs notes foe the bible

So it basically needs the preface "this story has been edited for content and to run in the time allotted" I can understand that.

I mean It's admirable that they at least tried to make it for content, but you have to remember this is TV and the programming is made to make money and be entertaining

I haven't seen them adding anything substantial. But they do seem to be sanitizing it a good bit through omission and minimizing some of the stuff that is less palatable to modern sensabilities.

That's kind of how I'm viewing it...more like a story board with little detail

I think they did a great job with it.

They did show the bag with the foreskins of the philistines David killed but I don't think they made it clear what they were.

I was raised in the church, but Im not 100% on all the stories. Some of the stories have been dramatized for effect a little bit, but most of the core concepts are there.

I would encourage you to read for yourself, even if just for the historical value if not for religious reasons.

Yeah everything seems to follow the actual stories just the portrayal of it is a little dramatized.

It's actually making me want to go back and read some of these stories again. Been a long time since I learned about them in middle school

If this is the case I would say the producers succeeded. There are subtle liberties taken but none I can't live with. All in all well done. I would like them to go off the beaten path at times and do a story like Rebecca promoting Jacob to steal his brother Esau's birthright. Later they met in the desert and Esau could have crushed his brother. Esau was pissed. They embraced and hugged. Esau IMO was the better man.

I liked that story a lot. Wish they'd have kept it in

I think they're hitting the stories that are most well known and make the best story IMO

Lol. Esau chose to follow pagan idols. He was in rebellion.

Sampson was bound twice by Delilah with her testing him. Then he gave up his secret. They skipped over that I'm sure for time. Black Sampson was kind of a slow learner

Can you blame him? Jacob was devious as was his mom. I would have totally tore his butt up in the desert. If roles were reversed Jacob would have too.

Good discussion. My pastor just went on a rant today about the liberties taken by the producers. I started to post on his Twitter...."Lighten up Francis" -from Stripes

today my pastor said hopefully the "gaps" between stories prompts people to pick up a bible and read. but we all know that won't happen.
