Thought the movie was a bit too hectic from a pacing standpoint, and a few loose ends weren’t tied up when they probably should have been- mainly Finn and Rey’s (probably one-sided) relationship that has been alluded to for 3 movies. I think there needed to be some sort of resolution there, even if she hit him with the brutal friend zone.
I also thought it was a big miss not to have Ben standing with Luke and Leia as they encouraged Rey to take the Skywalker name on Tattooine.
Overall I enjoyed it. Really, really wish they wouldn’t have tried to share the trilogy between Rian and JJ. Many of the issues the movies have simply stem from the fact that both directors were trying to cram in things and undo things from previous movies to fit their vision of Star Wars.

I agree with all of this.

JJ should've done it all.
I don't know why they didn't have a clear and specific outline of the arc of the 3 movies before they did the first one. They let Rian frick too much up.

This is the biggest issue with the entire trilogy right here...having multiple directors shouldn't be an issue. Not having a clear plan to follow is a HUGE issue.

Did you watch the same episode 8 I watched?? Every question and cliff hanger that was set up in TFA was ignored or made to not matter by Rian.

Can’t wrap my head around the fact that Kathleen Kennedy is the cofounder of Amblin, and is this fricking awful as a producer.
She was the technician, the mechanic, of that group. She's the person that if you tell her "we need this setting, we need these special effects, and we need these actors" then by God she'll get them for you if it is humanly possible. All of the Disney Star Wars have been technically well made even if the story, directing, and sometimes acting, have sucked the meat missile.
The problem is her creative guidance is the drizzling poo. In the second half of her career, when she wasn't acting as the plumber for Spielberg or Lucas, most of her choices have stunk on ice.
She isn't a big picture person and that is what this job requires. You've heard of people who can't see the forest for the trees? Kennedy can't see the tree for the bark.

Nah, TFA looks bad because Little Rian screwed the pooch and pissed on JJ’s outline.
Rian and KK are exclusively to blame

So, maybe i'm looking at this incorrectly, but what was the deal with the dagger being a map?
How in the world was this ancient Sith dagger a map to where the other map thing would be, in which it required the death star to be destroyed and use the wreckage to decipher it?

No, TFA had plenty of its own story flaws, people just wanted to believe that they could explain them away later.
The movie was a fine movie, it just subverted star wars lore a ton.

I enjoyed this movie. Did it have flaws, sure, nothing I couldn't suspend my disbelief over. Considering, you know, that it's STAR WARS!

Just like the Luke was able to add things to the Jedi scribes the dagger could have been much older than some of the things on or added to the dagger.

I'm not talking about the text on the dagger. The map thing was clearly in the throne room for a while. That wouldn't have been put there after the thing fell. So the dagger's blade was cut to match a specific point on the death star if it was wrecked on a planet?
Otherwise, it wouldn't have lined up with anything on the completed death star.

I enjoyed it, but couldn’t wait for it to end.

It was just a movie. These movies have never been great. The first trilogy was good and the second trilogy was ok. TRoS was better than the TFA and miles above TLJ. I only speak in relative terms about these movies. There was no masterpiece among them.

Would the internet and Star Wars worlds simultaneously explode if the homosexual kiss scene at the end was guy on guy and not girl on girl?
yes - That was just so dumb an unnecessary. There was a grown in the the theatre when that happened.

Agreed. I love the franchise for what it is but the only one even close to greatness is Empire.
