1) I think the movie was great.
2) I think it lived up to the hype.
3) I think the film's point was an inception on the audience (already said above) therefore the ending doesn't really matter. I think it works anyway you look at it. I'll explain more later.
4) The film did have one fatal flaw that really pissed me off: Not showing what happened when Old Saito picked up the gun. It was narratively disingenuous. If you have to have that scene, you have to show it. That was the one obvious instance of just skipping something, particularly something you've been building up to, to effect the audience. He just left it out so the following scene could be ambiguous. There are better ways of handling that.

I agree with you Freauxzen, I would like to see if there is anything extra with this scene in the Blu Ray release with the deleted scenes. I am curious if it may have been cut for time, or to fit the narrative.

It's impossible to take anything in this ending for face value.

When Saito died, he became lost in limbo, as most do, and aged, just like Mal and Dom did when they were lost in limbo. However, Dom, having entered limbo voluntarily with Ariadne, knew he was in limbo, and knew it wasn't real, and thus did not age.
Oh and the room Saito was in was a room from the Saito heist location. The location looked very similar. And Saito's place was on the ocean front.

I haven't read much of this thread but I wanted to throw my quick thoughts about the film:
1. I really liked it. It kept my attention for 2.5 hours (which is hard to do) and was just a very-well made film.
2. For me personally, the story was actually way more linear than I was expecting it to be. With everyone saying how confusing this movie was and how you really had to pay attention, I was expecting more instances of scenes where you questioned whether it was real or a dream. Outside of that final ambiguous scene, it actually wasn't all that hard to follow.
3. I think if The Matrix hadn't explored very similar themes more than a decade ago (not a knock on Inception), this film would have completely blown my mind. As it is, I found the philosophical themes in this movie interesting, but not mind blowing.
4. I like Leo as an actor and think he's pretty much solid in almost all of his films, but I actually found myself least interested in his character out of them all.
5. I actually wish we could have learned more about the rules of inception and extraction and the consequences of messing with peoples ideas and dreams (which is actually a good thing).
6. One thing I did like that Nolan did was that he subverted a very common plot element in a movie like this. Throughout most of the movie, I was expecting one of the crew to betray the rest of them (particularly JGL's character). I'm glad he avoided that cliche.
Overall, very good movie. Maybe the best thus far this year for me, but not one of the greatest of all time like some of the hyperbole being thrown around at the moment.

also the zero gravity/ shifting gravity fight was so awesome

Is there a reason the sun was always shining when it was raining? Or was that just lazy filmmaking?

Well it definitely wasn't that.

I don't have time to read the whole thread cause I have a final tomorrow to study for but this movie was damn near perfect. I got out of it about 30 minutes ago and I'm still wrapping my head around what I just saw. Christopher Nolan is a fricking genius

No shite right? How am I supposed to study anatomy and physiology after walking out of that?

I don't think that there has been a movie that has actually gotten me to go to the theater in about a year or so, or even see it twice in 2 days. I have never walked out of a movie as obsessed as I am with Inception.

Ariadne is the goddess of the labrynth...mal means bad/sick in many languages...

SPOILERS
A few points I've picked up from reading around about the ending:
1. Dom never has his wedding ring on when in reality, always has it on in the dreams. At the end he does not have it on.
2. While the children's outfits appear to be identical to what they are wearing in dream sequences initially, they are not identitcal. The girl has a white shirt on under her dress while in the dreams she did not.
3. Lastly, one of the actors in the movie, gave a hint that the ending could be heard instead of seen. In other words, you can hear the top fall over.

Just got back from my 3rd viewing, I'm convinced the ending was reality. My book is closed.

Saw this movie tonight and was blown away. One of the best movies I have ever seen and makes me want to buy a blue ray player just for this film.

Did anything in particular push it over the top for you after repeated viewings...in terms of "reality" vs. "dream?"
